So, how does Indian pop culture deal with poison? Bollywood films always have conveniently labeled poison bottles complete with skull and crossbones in the cupboards. These bottles have appeared in many movies for a long time.

One of my favourite murder mysteries is Kaun? Kaise? (Who? How?) (1983), in which poisoned ice cubes are used to kill the intended victim. Mithun Chakraborty played the detective, who solves the mystery by studying a similar case where the same poison was used. However, this handy, unknown poison that is so exhaustively used in Bollywood movies never captures the imagination. The poison I like in Bollywood films is diamond dust.

Last but certainly not least, Bollywood has no shortage of shape-shifting snakes and poison damsels (vishkanya). While shape-shifting snakes are more or less easy to comprehend, the idea of poison damsels is somewhat complicated; they are mythological women created as weapons to destroy men who give in to their baser instincts. The concept of vagina dentata is very much present in this trope. In Singhasan (Throne) (1986), Mandakini played a vishkanya who is used as bait to destroy men. Here, she is an unwilling participant. However, in the movie Vishkanya (1991), the elements of femme fatale and poisonous woman are blended. Dying in the arms of vishkanya is the sexual version of dying after eating poisoned Dundee cake.

Riya Sen (born Riya Dev Varma; 24 January 1981) is an Indian film actress and model. Riya, who comes from a family of actors including her grandmother Suchitra Sen, mother Moon Moon Sen and sister Raima Sen, began her acting career in 1991 as a child actress in the film Vishkanya. Her first commercial success in her film career was with Style, a 2001 Hindi low-budget sex comedy directed by N. Chandra. Some of her other notable films include producer Pritish Nandy's musical film, Jhankaar Beats (2003) in Hinglish, Shaadi No. 1 (2005) and Malayalam horror film Ananthabhadram (2005).Riya was first recognised as a model when she performed in Falguni Pathak's music video Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi at the age of eighteen. Since then, she has appeared in music videos, television commercials, fashion shows, and on magazine covers. Riya has worked as an activist and appeared in an AIDS awareness music video with the aim of dispelling popular myths about the disease. She also helped raise funds for pediatric eye-care.

His most ambitious film, Mera Naam Joker, did not achieve commercial success, leaving him heartbroken and financially unstable. Many years later, though, the film was termed as a misunderstood classic. The film was five hours long with two intervals!

Released in 1992, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar was a rare film, a cult classic. Mansoor Khan's second film after Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak is a timeless film that is still special for the Bollywood buffs. It is the OG Student Of The Year of the 90s.

From Sanju (Aamir Khan) and Anjali (Ayesha Jhulka) to Shekhar Malhotra (Deepak Tijori) and Ratanlal Sharma (Mamik Singh), even after 30 long years, all the characters remain etched in our hearts. Do you know Milind Soman was supposed to feature in the film?

Not Deepak Tijori but Milind Soman was the first choice to play Shekhar Malhotra in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. Revealing the same to Bollywood Hungama, Tijori said, "Milind Soman had bagged the part. 75% of the film was shot with him. Then the makers scrapped the film. It was shut for some time. I knew they had shot it as I had auditioned and I was not selected." Milind Soman was in his modelling days when he bagged the role.
