Locatedin Changi Village, Chock full of beans continued to rein in the crowds with its good food and wonderful coffee. Popular with the expats and local community, the cafe is very busy especially during weekends which is a sure sign of something great!

Getting to the cafe can be done via public transport which is highly recommended as it can be quite difficult to get parking spot if you are late and the road can be quite congested. The cafe has an alfresco seating area and if you are lucky, you may land a table indoors.

Our preference was for the alfresco seats which we find more spaced out between the tables and easier to make conversation.

A self served ice water machine sits snugly outdoors and can be used to quench your thirst.

Cute chalk drawings line the entrance into the indoor areas.

Apart from the popular brunch items, the cafe also has a nice selection of cakes to satisfy those sweet tooth.

Behind the counter, the highly skilled Barista can be seen working on the beautiful latte art. Their latte art is by far one of the most unique with cute cartoon designs among many others. You can be sure to not get the usual heart, swan or flower shaped latte art from here and is one of the reason why the cafe is so popular.

For our drinks, the missus went with the Vanilla latte which have a nice vanilla smell but a little too sweet for my liking. For those that enjoy coffee with sugar, this will be a good choice

I prefer to have the aromatics from the coffee beans and went with the latte. Do note that their 3D latte art is only available for iced drinks and do indicate to the service crew that you will like the option. The cute latte art just makes the morning even better and definitely brighten up one's mood.

Don't the foamy creatures look adorable?

The salmon queen aka the missus went with the eggs Atlantic which come with 2 nicely poached eggs coated with hollandise sauce. The yolk did not disappoint and ooze out readily with a gentle slice of the knife. The smoked salmon did not have any strong fishy smell and combine well with the egg lava. It was enjoyable to butter the toast with the free flowing yolk and send waves of oohhh lala into your taste buds. The salad on the side help to cut through the thickness and provided the necessary fibre.

Being the piggy of the pair, I went with the roasted pork roulade. The dish came with decent slices of roulade which was perfect for a pig out. The dish was complimented with scrambled eggs and slices of toast which was a recipe for a perfect breakfast. The roulade was tasty but can be slightly dry. That is when the Dijon cream sauce comes it and it was enjoyable to drizzle the lovely sauce and munch away.

To sum it up, our brunch outing at the Chock full of beans is a success. The service is good and the food reasonably priced. The coffee is good and the latte art is amazing!!! Highly recommend by us!

[REVISTED SEP 2016]

We revisited the cafe on a Saturday afternoon 4pm and found the cafe packed like sardines. Due to the pokemon craze, there is a huge influx of visitors to Changi Village and cafes benefited from the increase in human traffic.

We were lucky that people were leaving and landed ourselves a table just beside the bar counter in the air conditioned part of the cafe.

The missus and I are always fascinated about the apparatus for making cold brew coffee which resembles a science experiment.

We also had a good view of the decorations on the walls with a very class monochrome picture of the Changi Village jetty with the bum boats docking in the area.

We wanted 3D latte art and the waitress kindly reminded us that waiting time will be 30min which was acceptable for us. We were happy that it was much lesser than that, I was delighted that my latte came with a white Pikachu or it could be some other cartoon character that looks like it. My latte seem under extracted and was slightly acidic. I will prefer a more bitter taste though but did enjoy the smooth and refreshing cup.

The missus Baileys latte as the name suggest and a strong hint of Baileys and fans of the liqueur will definitely appreciate the cup of latte. It had a sweet taste but did not overpower the taste of the coffee beans which was quite nice.

As always, 3D latte art never fails to impress us and always work wonders to brighten up one's day. With the hoards of pokemon fans in the vicinity, you can expect the cafe to be crowded throughout the day.

Seriously, there are 136 different items on the menu, divided into categories, so a number system actually comes in handy. It would take another number, the 3rd Infantry Division, to attack this vast and impressive menu of Hunan and Szechuan cuisine in its entirety.

On our first visit, I sampled the shrimp toast appetizer, which came in a generous portion. A light batter covered the toast, stuffed with big pieces of shrimp and crispy around the edges. (Americans love to crunch.)

The House Special Soup (No. 104) is designated for two, but it could feed at least three adult soup lovers. It was chock full of cut green beans, shrimp, carrots, mushrooms, pork and egg noodles, all swimming in a tasty, aromatic broth. While a great blend of complementary ingredients, the soup allows the consumer to season to taste. The call here was it needed pepper.

I thought the lunch special, Ginger Scallion Duck, was a solid, flavorful choice - the duck neatly sauteed, with fresh asparagus dutifully on the side. The other main entree also was a winner, the Triple Crown (chicken, shrimp and beef). On top of white or fried rice, these dishes hit the spot for hearty diners.

We're nuts for soup. On our second visit, the Signature Soup No. 4, shredded chicken with spinach in broth (for two), got high marks for its full-bodied chicken broth. The skinless chicken strips were tender and found a suitable counterpoint in the texture of the spinach leaves, which were tender and flavorful.

Since it was an old-school place, we began with old-school cocktails. My husband had a Knob Creek Manhattan ($9.75) and appreciated the fact that the bartender included a separate glass of the dirty ice (from the shaken cocktail) just as he prefers. I had an excellent Knob Creek old-fashioned ($9.75).

To start our meal, my husband had a cup of the seafood stew ($5.99). It was chock full of cod, shrimp and lobster with small diced potatoes in a flavorful cream-based broth. My dinner (and most others) came with a cup of the house soup, which was chicken Italiano. It was like chicken cacciatore in soup form and quite good.

For a side, he choose a baked potato, which was also very large, wrapped in foil and served with sour cream. It went well with the rib. Since he ordered the seafood stew rather than the house soup that came with his meal, our server offered him a side of green beans instead of the soup as a substitute.

The twice-baked potato was excellent. The chef scoops out the potato filling and mixes it with what tasted like sour cream and ranch dressing mix. Once it is light and fluffy, the filling is piped back into the potato skin with beautiful swirls that become golden brown on the ridges of the ruffles during the second baking.

I was able to finish my tuna, but we asked to bring the prime rib and remaining two potatoes home in a take-out bag. Most of the time, the contents of our take-out containers become chicken food, but this time my husband made a lovely prime rib and potato hash topped with poached eggs on Saturday morning. Sorry chickens!

For a large majority of us, the importance of a morning cup of coffee cannot be overstated. The breakfast beverage does more than just give you a daily jump of energy; often it is the first thing you taste after your toothpaste. Having an underwhelming brew can spoil your day, while a flavorful one can provide an inspiring start. In today's world of depressing news, there is no time to waste on a bad cup of coffee.

In 1926, an enterprising entrepreneur named William Black went into business roasting nuts. When the economy nosedived just three years later, Black changed the focus of his company, aptly named Chock Full o' Nuts, to begin roasting coffee beans (which were cheaper at that time). This leaves one to wonder if "Great Depression" is a term better used to tell the history of Black's java business or to describe the state of the unlucky coffee drinker who gets saddled with a can of this stuff.

Yuban has been on the market for over a century. This lengthy history might be enough to convince you that there is something tried and true about the brand, but a cup of these grounds will have you reconsidering. Despite being a staple on grocery store coffee shelves for years, Yuban's quality is now a thing of the past.

Of all the Kraft-Heinz products that exist on the market, Maxwell House is one of the most well-known. However, as other Kraft-Heinz coffees have proven, the high profile doesn't always translate to high quality. In the case of Maxwell House, it definitely doesn't. In fact, this coffee is so bad that even Kraft-Heinz once considered dropping it from its portfolio. For now, it remains a part of the family, which makes us wonder if the conglomerate has had a hard time getting rid of it.
