Below is the UMW JULY news.  Please read and keep informed about our PURPOSE as UMW.

I will see you at our first fall meeting on September 4, 2013.  The program is listed below.  Rachel Circle is the hostess and we will continue to meet in 107.
Please check the reading books as there is more reading time in summer.

Blessings....I hope and pray you are having a great summer.
Juanita

Juanita, Please share this with local UMW officers, members, and circle chairs:

I have relocated the UMW books in a 3-foot tall MOBILE UNIT in the north east corner of the office lobby. On meeting days, we can just close it and roll it to the room where we meet.

A separate box for UMW checkout book cards is on top of the “UMW Bookcase” along with lists and magazines.

I’m looking for something to use as a UMW book return and place it somewhere in the “UMW Bookcase.” Rather than a part of the church library, the UMW library will be administered separately since I will no longer work in the library area after July 31.

Blessings,

Janet Hofstetter

UMW Highlights for July

UMW members will be putting together World Service Kits for the 2013 Festival of Sharing in October. Between now and then donations may be dropped off at the JCFUMC Church. Look for the donation box near the coffee bar. This is a mission with far reaching results. For the month of July please donate items for health kits which include:

  • 1 hand towel 16” X 28”
  • (NO fingertip or bath towels)
  • 1 washcloth
  • 1 wide-tooth comb (remove packaging)
  • 6 Standard size Band-Aids
  • 1 toothbrush (in original packaging)
  • 1 bar of soap (bath size in wrapper)
  • 1 metal nail clipper (no metal files or emery boards, remove packaging)

In August we’ll focus on school kits since that is when many school supplies go on sale around the community. In September, we’ll gather the layette items. Please know that your contributions will be appreciated. Last year JCFUMC sent over 200 completed kits to the Festival. Thanks to all for donating time, money, and items. Please support this mission once again. Contact Carol Galloway, Joyce Smith, or Ann Toebben if you have questions.

The Chili Supper and Bazaar will take place in October, so it’s time to think about items to sell. Handcrafted items, baked goods, and books are big sellers. Gently used items are also accepted for sale at the Bazaar.

Upcoming Events:

  • July 25th-28th Cooperative School of Christian Mission, Fayette
  • August 24th Mid-State District Mini School
  • September 4th Unit Meeting – Program “Blue Highways Revisited”presented by Edgar Ailor III.
  • September 21st Fall District Meeting, Ozark Chapel UMC

Living the Heart of God is the program theme for 2013. Missions continue throughout summer months – Altar Flower delivery, Afghans for Angels, Home Delivered Meals, Donating and Making items for CWS Kits and Bazaar, and Project Patricia. If you would like to help with these ongoing missions please check UMW Program book for contact information.

MISSION U is the new name for the Cooperative School of Christian Missions. This organization has met many years bringing together United Methodist sharing ways we can reach the hurting world in Mission Outreach and also experience Spiritual Growth and Fellowship.

The date for Mission u is July 25-28: 1 John 3:18; Dear Children, let us not love words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
The Bible Study book this year is “Living Sacramentally, Walking Justly” The Global Study is ‘’The Roma of Europe” or ”Poverty” and each attendee will chose one.

There is Adult and Young Adult Registration for a 4 day or a 3 day stay. Children and Youth have sessions too, and a babysitter is provided. They are Safe Sanctuary certified.

The two attending for our FUMC UMW are Pam Woolbright and her daughter Meghan.

UMW WOMAN OF THE YEAR IS CAROL GALLOWAY

The UMW of FUMC has nominated Carol Galloway as our candidate for Women in Mission for the year 2013. All nominations are sent to Mid-State District and one is selected to represent the district and will be honored at the UMW Annual Meeting.

Carol has been faithful in so many ministries of UMW and FUMC. Most recently she has co-chaired “Afghans for Angels” which sends afghans to 70 birthing hospitals throughout Missouri. Find out more at http://www.afghansforangelsmissouri.org/

She has led in the Project Patricia project, she knits prayer shawls for persons who are ill, homebound or homeless. She also knits preemie caps for babies in Hospitals in Springfield.

For the last 3 years she has organized women to participate in the making of kits for Festival of Sharing, and is serving there again this year. Carol has served in many other ways as a member of UMW and FUMC, and we are honored to nominate her for 2013 Woman of the year in Mission.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE ACTIVATED.

Robin Freeland, Chairman of the Nominating Committee for UMW, is calling a meeting with Jo Donnelly and Marie White to plan for Officers for 2014.  Please be in prayer about serving and say 'Yes' when they call you.   I plan to meet with them the first time to answer any questions, and supply information of the duties of each office.

It is a blessing to serve on the Mission Team!
