Just received this posting from Janet Hofstetter, and you can see she asked me to pass this exciting Reading Program information to you.
Merry Christmas
Love,
Juanita

Juanita,
I know you've passed the gavel, but I also know you have a list of UMW ladies' e-mail addresses. Would you forward this, please? A big thanks!

I wanted everyone to know that we have 8 new UMW books on the shelf and ready for checkout for 2014 AND 2 more are backordered. Hard copies of the list are available on top of our UMW shelves. I'm reading 100 Simple Things you Can Do to Prevent Alzheimer's and it should be on everyone's reading list--not just UMW members! It's based on scientific studies. I plan to do a program on it for my Sunday school class since we are the age when we worry about dementia. This one will be popular, so everyone needs to watch for it on the Nurturing Community shelf under Carper (the author). Those who check it out should not keep it more than 2 weeks!
Advent Blessings,
Janet Hofstetter

UMW Ladies,
I finished reading the new 2014 UMW Reading List Book 100 Simple Things You Can Do to Prevent Alzheimer's by Jean Carper and have attached the notes I will share with the Fishermen Class as a lesson very soon.
To be honest, unless you want to read the scientific studies discussed for each "thing" we can do, my notes should be sufficient for understanding.  The author originally researched the research because she is a carrier of the gene for high susceptibility for developing Alzheimer's and her goal is to help people stave off the progression of the disease long enough that a person will die before the symptoms are really noticeable.  The intent is not to do all 100 things, but rather to choose those that you can fairly easily incorporate into your own life style.  Most of them are related to exercise, nutrition, socialization, challenging the brain, and meditation.

Feel free to share my attached notes with anyone interested.
New Year's Blessings,
Janet Hofstetter

Ladies, forward this to those not listed above in the CC, please.  That's why I didn't send this as blind copy.

I talked to Dorothy Wagner (a long time active UMW member) last night and her hip replacement surgery that had to be postponed last December is still on for this morning.  Therefore, if you'd like to send her an e-card through the University Hospital, go to

https://www.muhealth.org/body.cfm?id=345&eformid=5
https://www.muhealth.org/body.cfm?id=345&eformid=5

There are no choices of cards like many of the hospitals--they just accept messages so the process is extremely easy.  It would be great for her to have lots of messages to greet her when she gets out of recovery!

I plan to call David late this afternoon and will let everyone know how the surgery went.  Dorothy's daughter arrived Monday before the storm, thank goodness.

Blessings,

Janet Hofstetter

Sorry about the earlier wrong subject heading--I used an old e-mail for the contact list.

I just talked to David Wagner and Dorothy got out of recovery at 2pm and she ate a good supper.  He said they opted for a nerve block so she didn't have to have so much anesthesia--supposed to last 24 hours before slacking off and she doesn't have to have so much pain reliever.  Here's that patient e-mail address again if you haven't sent her an e-card:
