Good evening friends,

Attached and copied into the body of this email you’ll find the Wesley Study Notes for your preparation for Sunday worship online. This week let me encourage you to meet together if possible, in groups no greater than 10 persons, and watch the service. Invite a neighbor who doesn’t have internet or computer capability, being careful to maintain established social distancing standards. We are working on plans to re-launch in person worship, and will share those as soon as we are able to do so. Please:

  1. Pray for us to have wisdom in decision making, letting God be our guide, and;
  2. Take the SECOND survey sent out by Pastor Clay, and also available on our Facebook page. For some reason, the first survey had technical problems and we cannot access the results. If you only complete that one, we will not be aware of your thoughts. Thanks for your perseverance, cooperation and assistance in completing the second survey.

Blessings

Ellen

Wesley Groups Study Lesson

Week of May 24, 2020

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15: 1-11

Week One: “30 Second Theology” Series

Theme: Are You Ready for Some Good News?

Opening Prayer:

Dear God, the world offers us so much bad news and for whatever reason, it always overrides the good news we get. We remember the bad and forget the good! Forgive us, O God! Help us to see the world with eyes like yours, looking for the good everywhere we go, and in everything we do. Amen!

Overview:  This week we continue our sermon series: “30 Second Theology”. The link to the commercial this week is:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0d-sH7INsE

Questions for reflection:

  1. Watch the TV commercial. Read the scripture lesson.
  2. Consider for a few moments, the word that is used repetitively in the commercial. Why does the second squirrel get so frustrated with the first? How does this relate to the world around us?
  3. Do you become worn down and depressed by the world around you? Do you find yourselves not wanting to watch the news or read the newspaper or internet news?
  4. Is the world ready for some Good News? If we chose to embrace it, what difference can we make in the world around us? How so?
  5. What does the word GRACE mean? What is its meaning in verse 10 of the scripture lesson? What relevance does it have to the Good News? (Hint Ephesians 2:8-9) What does this mean for your life?
  6. Are you ready for some good news? Are you ready to share it?

Closing Thoughts on Scripture Lesson: Discuss anything else that you noticed in this lesson that challenges you.

Sharing of Prayer Concerns & Celebrations

Closing Prayer: Loving God, thank you for the gift of grace in our lives. Forgive us when we don’t acknowledge that gift or allow it to make a difference in our lives. Urge us, nudge us, O God, to share the Good News with a world that’s overwhelmed and drowning in bad news. Amen!
