Friends:

I apologize for sending a second message in one day.  Extraordinary circumstances can force extraordinary measures, and the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative is too important to our effort to ignore – even as we simultaneously work a full-court-press to get the HPF onto Senate Bill 3663.

To all of you who have made it to an America’s Great Outdoors Listening Session over the last two months, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to participate in such an important meeting.  If for whatever reason you haven’t been able to attend in person, it is not too late to get your voice heard.  We have heard feedback that our message regarding full funding for the Historic Preservation Fund got through loud and clear – but it is also critical that we make sure that we continue to get as much activity in both the listening sessions and on the website as we can.

Heritage interests have been a much softer voice drowned out by the environmental groups whose reach is wider and whose pockets are deeper, but we still have every opportunity to make sure our seat at the table is not ignored.

ACTION

Please visit the America’s Great Outdoors “Ideajam” and put in your historic preservation and cultural heritage ideas and priorities.  The Powers That Be are trolling this site regularly to pull creative ideas and to get a temperature reading for what people want.  We need to barrage them with our ideas to the greatest degree we can.  This means posting ideas, voting for other ideas, and commenting.

Here’s what you need to do:

1)       Visit the website:  http://ideas.usda.gov/ago/ideas.nsf/

2)      If you haven’t done so already, register your name.  It is free and easy.

3)      Post your ideas.  Be sure to tag it with “historic preservation” to make it easy to find for others to vote on and comment.

4)     Click “Historic Preservation” under the “top idea tags” on the right side of the screen (you may have to scroll down a little), and vote on the pro-preservation/cultural resources ideas that others  have posted.

We encourage you to be positive in your comments,  be specific about what you are asking for and provide good examples of why historic preservation and cultural heritage is important and beneficial to the community.  Spread the word broadly to your friends, colleagues and partners.

If you have any questions or concerns, or if I can be of any assistance to you, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  Thank you so much for all you do for historic preservation and for your support for the Coalition for Full Funding.

Best,

Kristen
