Friends and allies:

Good news!  The House Natural Resources Committee passed the CLEAR Act, which includes the provision to fully fund the Historic Preservation Fund.  One amendment was offered which would have stripped the guaranteed and permanent funding for the HPF, LWCF and a new Oceans Trust Fund, however thanks in part to efforts by Coalition members, the amendment failed.  There is still a long way to go to achieve our ultimate goal, however the CLEAR Act will now go forward for a full House vote with the HPF provision included.  For the official press release on the bill, you can follow this link: http://resourcescommittee.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=638&Itemid=27

Thank you to those  organizations from around the country who submitted testimony and letters of support for the Historic Preservation Fund and the CLEAR Act!  We’ll continue to keep you posted as the CLEAR Act moves forward to the House floor.

In the meantime, the momentum continues on the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative, and there is another important opportunity for you to engage and make a difference:

ACTION:

The America’s Great Outdoors Idea Jam has been refreshed to collect new ideas on how to connect people to the Great Outdoors.  In the first round, we made a big impact for the Historic Preservation Fund by being the top vote-getter by a significant margin in any category.  We’ve heard from inside sources that contributions to the ideajam are being harvested regularly for innovative ideas, and we’ve been encouraged to keep the ball rolling for the HPF and the needs of cultural resources:

1)      Visit the website: http://ideas.usda.gov/ago/ideas.nsf/.  You will need to log in, but registration is free and simple.

2)     Post your ideas:  This is a unique opportunity to let Federal decision-makers  know your best and brightest ideas, so be creative…but we encourage you to talk about how the Historic Preservation Fund is key to your success.  Be sure to tag your idea with “historic preservation.”

3)      Be sure to vote:  Whether or not you’ve submitted an idea, click on “historic preservation” under the “Top Idea Tags” on the right hand side of the page, and vote for the ideas submitted by other historic preservation colleagues around the country.

As always, thank you so much for all you do for historic preservation, and for your support for the Coalition for Full Funding. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance.

Best,

Kristen
