Friends:

In the past ten days, the Coalition for Full Funding has been picking up steam at an impressive rate: 77 members from 39 States, 10 national organizations, a Tribal community and a regionally based National Heritage Area.  With four separate organizations, Georgia has pulled ahead as the State with the most representation.

At the December 4th meeting of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, Councilmember and chair of the Preservation Initiatives Committee, Ann Pritzlaff, submitted a motion on behalf of her Committee for the Council to endorse full funding of the Historic Preservation Fund. Members who were able to vote issued unanimous support of the motion.

Also during the meeting, National Park Service Director Jon Jarvis discussed the recently released "National Park Service Second Century Report," including the recommendation for full funding of both the Land and Water Conservation Fund and the Historic Preservation Fund. The Department of the Interior is clearly aware of the issue and the need for increased support of cultural resources as they plan their priorities for this Administration.

This is all very good news, and while the effort to secure full funding for the HPF is still an uphill battle, we’re starting to see some results from our efforts.  It is clear, though, that building our membership is key.  We will be sending another update in a few days giving you some ideas on steps you can take while Congress is on recess – which is always a great time to get their attention – but in the meantime, the steering committee of the Coalition is offering you a challenge:  we would like each member of the Coalition to recruit one additional organization to sign on.  And remember: signing on to the Coalition does not constitute lobbying – just support for the initiative.

Current list of members can be found by following this link: http://www.fullyfundhpf.org/home/about_the_alliance

Sample appeal letter to help you recruit new members can be found here: http://www.fullyfundhpf.org/home/fact_sheets_and_information

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns, or if I can provide you with any additional information or assistance in your efforts to help us build the Coalition – and secure full funding for the Historic Preservation Fund.

Thank you, so much, for all you do.

Best,

Kristen
