I rebooted and cleared cookies, and after starting the extension and selecting the user I was prompted to grant the extension permissions - which I hadn't been previously.  After that, the login went fine.

No idea why I was re-prompted for permissions - I hadn't revoked them - but perhaps the unusual flow was causing some issue.  In any case, all is working again now - thanks!

There are details about this in https://developers.google.com/privacy-sandbox/3pcd , and various news reports if you google 'third-party cookies chrome'.  I was opted into this testing early.

Thank goodness for luci's workaround above.  Still, that was a huge pain to resolve in Vivaldi.  Restarting the browser after clearing cookies is an important part.

It worked for like once session and then the issue came back again.  Completely unable to sign-in.

Fumbling around, at some point I opened up Ghostery, my ad-blocker. and trusted the Full Screen for Google Tasks site, and immediately was able to log in again.
