How to disable sign up

How do you disable the sign up button? I don't want just anybody to be
able to sign up.

Hi Dane,

At the moment there is no option in the configuration to disable public
sign up. It is in the development backlog, and I'll give it a higher
priority based on your request. I think it's a pretty important
feature.

I'm wondering if 'self sign up' or 'invite only' should be the default
mode for the application?
