Subject: Call for Fulbright participants in the discipline of humanities, liberal arts and any creative area of work

Proposal by Unni Krishnan K. Fulbright Doctoral Fellow. MICA. MD.

If you are a Fulbrigher in the discipline of Humanities, Liberal Arts or any creative area of work, you are invited to participate in presenting your body of work/presentation and participate in a panel discussion with other fellow Fulbrighters, alumni members and guests. This is a unique opportunity for creative fellows to display their work/research in the Washington, D.C. office of IIE. This opportunity allows the scope of Fulbrighters from all over the world to collaborate with other participants and thus increase international cultural exchange and mutual understanding. It is also a good opportunity to create lasting relationships and collegial connections.

Participants would display or exhibit their work and participate in a panel discussion.  In addition to Fulbrighters displaying their work, other panelists would also include senior scholars and university professors.  Please note that this is a call for those who would like to present their work and participate in the panel discussion.  An invitation for all those who would like to attend but not present will follow later once the panelists and date are confirmed.

Date: July - date to be decided upon once the participants are confirmed. Please email Unni Krishnan at unni...@gmail.com to confirm your participation and give Unni three dates that you could participate (mid-July through end of July). The date of the panel will be determined after responses are received.

Sample: To give you an idea of what others are presenting, the proposal  presenter’s topic presentation is as follows:

‘Image of Obama’ Transmigration from political leadership to cultural Heroism.

About the Research ‘The Image of Obama’

This research in the areas of visual culture, in the intersection of Art History, Anthropology and Humanities, investigates on the popular visual culture of contemporary United States of America, a case study on Obama- the Image of Obama. The context here is specifically focused on the popular visual culture, on the images that has been reflected from the individuals of the larger society, representing their Hope and Dreams through the visuals of Obama. This in turns develops into an icon making process. An Icon who is challenging as a Political leader is in turn been accepted and reflected as a cultural hero. This transmigrating evolution of the iconography is the investigation that this research debates as cultural tool ‘The Image of Obama’.

To participate as a panelist: Please confirm your interest by contacting Unni Krishnan K at unni...@gmail.com by July 8th so that we can reserve a space for the event.  In your email please provide UK a short proposal and three dates of availability on which you could participate (late afternoon weekdays mid-July through the end of July).
