1.       Fulbrighter Intan Paramaditha selected as the Best Short Story Writer of 2013

 

Kompas daily newspaper announced on June 26, 2013 that Intan Paramaditha won the award as the best short story writer for 2013.  The award is for her short story entitled “Klub Solidaritas Suami Hilang” (The Solidarity Club of the Missing Husbands) published in Kompas on March 31, 2013. 

 

Intan received a Fulbright scholarship to complete her Master’s in English literature at the University of California, San Diego in 2005-2007.  She continued her study to New York University and recently earned her Ph.D. in Cinema Studies. 

 She has written on film/ media practices and activism in relation to sexual politics, censorship, nation, and religion. Her doctoral dissertation (awarded distinction) has been supported by fellowships from the Social Science Research Council IDRF, ACLS/ Mellon Dissertation Completion Fellowship, and American Association of University Women. She has been an invited speaker at universities and film festivals, and her articles appear in journals including Inter-Asia Cultural Studies, Film Quarterly, Asian Cinema, and Jump Cut as well as edited volumes such as Southeast Asian Independent Cinema and Encyclopedia of Women and Islamic Cultures.

 

Intan's first collection of short stories, Sihir Perempuan, was shortlisted for the Khatulistiwa Literary Awards in 2005. She has collaborated with Teater Garasi in the theatre production of Goyang Penasaran (The Obsessive Twist), a play adapted from her short story about sexuality, politics, and religion in contemporary Indonesia.

2.       Fulbrighter Putu Wijaya earned the Tribute for his  Dedication to Creative Work

 

Kompas daily newspaper announced on June 26, 2014 that Putu Wijaya was awarded a Tribute for his dedication to creative work (Penghargaan Kesetiaan Berkarya).  Putu continues writing for various media, in spite of the fact that, because of his illness, he can only type using his thumbs as the other fingers are somewhat paralyzed.
