Subject: [mfi] FW: [forumpermukiman] EAROPH World Congress: Towards Resilient and Smart Cities, Jakarta 10-13 Agustus 2014
EAROPH World Congress, 9-12 August, Jakarta
Jakarta, one of world’s largest metropolitan cities, expanding and ever increasing role as the economic and political gravity of the region shifting toward the city. The 24th EAROPH World Congress host, will present topics of the most relevance, current issues and trends in urban and and human settlement challenges.
The beginning of the 21st century has been witnessing the increasing role cities in influencing the development of the world. Not only because more than half people in the world live in the cities, but also because more and more networks of major cities, which are considered as the engines of growth of nations, have been established to answer the challenges put forward by the globalization. The key feature to comprehend this phenomena is innovation. Networks of major cities wrap up the innovation invented by these cities to keep them ahead.
However, the speed of change imposed by globalization’s challenges is rarely being matched by the pace of change of the city society; resulting in severe urban problems, such as environmental degradation, increasing criminal rates, etc. To cope with these problems, planning is crucial. Planning shall assure that the “balance” development is achieved by major cities in the world. The determination of cities’ managers is being tested in implementing both innovation and planning to achieve thegoal that is desired by its society.
