S.O.S. !

Emergency!

Last night, my MacBook became terminally ill. Cooling fan became very noisy. The machine is too old. The old battery, there is no memory now the hard drive. It  can not work. I must replace it.

Please help me! If  you have an old MacBook is not in use, please tell me. Even if it is not working that's all right. I can swap the cooling fans.

Thanks in advance.

And a good south wind sprung up behind;

The Albatross did follow,

And every day, for food or play,

Came to the mariner's hollo!

Hello Norazam,

Thanks for you reply.

There's also a computer electronics shop around the corner from my office and Bic Camera up the road.

I think I can replace the fan. But what I realIy to do is replace the computer. But I'm a poor man. I've been keeping a look out for a used MacBook that I could afford. But I found nothing. And now my computer is dying and I cannot work.

A similar thing happened with the fan on my MacBook Pro - it suddenly became very loud. The sound was a terrible screech, and I actually thought that my disk was in the process of failing!

I opened it up and gave the fans a good clean (disassembled them to clean) and that solved it. So, if it is ONLY that the fan is loud, you might be able to fix it.

Hello Woll,

I took your advise and got myself can of air. I took out off the bottom of the MacBook this morning and found a cooling vent clogged with dust. I took the fan out and gave it a good blast of air. It seemed to spin nicely so I didn't go as far as to disassemble the fan to clean the inside.

I gave the rest of the inside of the computer a good cleaning. I found a pieces what was once one of the inside stopper of a rubber foot pad. That cannot be good. I gave the computer a shake and all the other pieces fell out, so that problem too is cleaned up.

I monitoring the fan speed with a programme call smcFanControl.

The fan speed is hovering around 1800 rpm and it says the temperature is 60C. Another programme - Disk Drilll http://www.cleverfiles.com/ says the CPU temperature  is 37C. So I don't know which to believe.

I do know that before the cleaning, after 30 minutes of turning on this MacBook, Disk Drill would say the temperature was over 40C and I could hear the fan clearly working hard.

So, one problem solved.

Though I still need a new battery and a bigger hard drive.

If anyone want to sell his old MacBook let me know. This 2008 model doesn't like it when I run Eclipse and xCode and am Google hacking about tree maps all at the same time.

Cheers and thanks for all your input.

How much ram do you have in it? Unofficially the 2008 white ones can take 3gigs of ram.

Hello Deji,

How's Tokyo?

This machine has 2.4 GHz and 4 Gb DDR3 and a 224 GB on the hard drive.

So, I think 3 Gb wouldn't be enough. Thank you for the consideration.
