On the odd occasion, I will either ctrl+S and manual go into File Save and save my project, but it will result in a bunch of processes where it tries to save. I don't get how it can pile on saves when the other saves hasn't finished.

Also autosave is broken. I usually find this out when I haven't saved for a while, and there is nothing in the folder linked in the autosave options for the script. It's a common problem with the majority of people in the office, and is almost a joke now, but not when you've lost a good chunk of work through depending on it.

The onus shouldn't be on the user to remember to save, that's why autosaves exist, especially when the actual save function is bugged. I'm not bothered about your opinion on the onus, can someone please address this, thanks.

Open Task Manager, wait till you see the saving process and shut it down, then retry saving. You might have to shut down other processes around the core substance process, if the saving process is not showing up right away. (hope this helps)

This is something that helped me that may also work for those who still experience problems after clearing the task manager. The issue queues saves, whether autosave or a manual save and it won't let you register your changes to file. you will see the queued green saving bars at about 25% at the bottom right of the screen. They just sit there, frozen.

This issue is folllowing me for all time, autosaves don`t save project at all if they atleast work, then I find that my last autosave was whole week ago, when I saw autosaving for many times every day, or autosaves frozen whole my project till it crash, or even it can cause that I can`t save at all my project even If I shut down all saving processes. That happend to me with different pc, different windows, different painter version. Seems adobe just makes joke with people and will never fix that.

I'm using the most recent versions of maya and substance painter. I want to take a ordinary thin cuboid (replicating a pane of glass) and import it into substance painter. All UV'd of course. I've followed tutorials of how to achieve a glassy texture and in V-ray it looks fantastic. I also have some smudging and dirt generators.

However, I can't figure out how to export the textures correctly. Then to texture my pane of glass through arnold 5. I've gotten close a few times but It's just trial an error. Does anyone know the correct way to export glass textures back into maya for arnold.??? Thanks all

thank you for the quick reply. I've already watched both tutorials, I just think there's something different about glass. Arnold has the transmissive tab in attribute editor, yet substance uses an opacity attribute. I just can't find the correct method for configuring substance glass into arnold. What seems to happen is the colour, metallic, geo and specular work but it leaves the question of what about transmissive. If I render a pane of glass with arnold once textured, I receive a black texture with some info such as specular.

When I use these settings setting up an aiStandardSurface, the Alpha is Luminance on the Transmission turns the object to a reflective gray, but I can see the color from the BaseColor. With it turned off, it looks like glass, minus the color the Painter had. Is there another setting for the Transmission that needs to be turned on?

Yes. My concern is mainly twofold: 1) there is no native Cycles custom object mapping. Adding that is far from trivial. And 2) baking will have all the drawbacks of decal baking I am in the process of fixing by doing native decals in Cycles (maybe not trivial, but far more easy than custom object mapping.)

Be aware that Substance painter automatic UV mapping is not capable of unwrapping a cylinder! or cylinders (reasonable good for good texturing with constant detail density, parallel for a bump, with good use of space and other issues). For cylinders use rhino UV mapping. And Rhino 3D relying on Substance Painter 2D texture software for UV mapping is a workaround for missing Rhino UV mapping working tools.

Hi, I am having an issue where Substance Painter 3D will freeze when launching on my tablet (working as a second monitor as well). It gets stuck on a white screen that looks like the following:
Then I must close Substance Painter, uninstall and reinstall, or disconnect and reconnect my tablet to get it working again. I'm beginning to get annoyed with the tedium. I am running on Windows 11 and using a XP-Pen Pro 22E tablet for the second monitor. I do not have this problem on my personal station that operates off of windows 10 and an older Cintiq 22 as the second monitor.

I have tried updating every single driver and trying every older version of substance painter available. I am not sure what else is left to do. If there is a solution to this problem, I'd be happy to hear it!

I have the same problem with the PenDisplay Tablet and Substance 3D Painter. I use a Huion Pen Display tablet more precisely a Huion Kamvas Pro 22 "V. 2019. Every time I move 3d Painter on the Huion screen, 3D Painter freezes after a few seconds and I can't work. The only way to unlock it is delete the settings from regedit and restart it in default mode on the main monitor. This problem only happens with 3d Painter I have tried other software of both painting 2d and 3d and they work without problem. I have also updated everything both softwares and drivers. If anyone can help me I would be very grateful to him.
Thanks in advance

Here got the same Issue, that is pretty persistent. I'm working on window 11 with XP pen Artist 24, I tried with my Cintiq 24 pro from work and it is the same problem (so not XP pen's). Opening Substance Painter on a second Monitor Fails to launch (Freeze immediately), If launched on 1st monitor it simply cannot be moved to the other one.

I managed to temporary fixing it by changing the High DPI properties to "Override" "System" instead of "System (Enhanced)". Then it stopped working again. So I managed to make it work by switching to Compatibility mode window 8. It does launch but now my tablet is not working properly, I have zero pressure control and cannot right click with my pen, so not useful.

Hi substance was working fine for me... I got a cintiq and it worked for a while. then I got this bug. It launches if I disconnect all secondary screens. Pls help this slows my workflow so much. I cannot find Nahimic service at all.. wonder what it is but its not on my services list

I am a little problem with textureset settings in substance painter, I have changed the dimensions of a helmet texture set to what i am hoping is 2048 wide by 1024 high, but as their is not even a "w" and "h" and as the texture or canvas in the 2d view is still a square when I had thought it would change into a rectangle and their are still rectangle pixels on the helmet in 3d view.

For sharing export presets, I always just had my teams source a custom shelf from a shared server location. This worked for all of our shelf contents, including export presets. As long as they had that shelf added to their application setup, the export preset would be available to them when they went to the export textures window.

For Python users:
I needed to create an application setup for the users within their library settings. The name I give it is the python context value, as seen being used in substance.painter.ResourceID(). I might be able to automate the application setup in python, which means I wont need the user to manually set it up in their libraries. If anyone has already done this it would be ace to see how?

Which is more performance efficient ? For example if i have a wooden bench and wooden floor for my asset, is it better to just create a single material in ue4 and just apply to them both ? Or i should texturing and painting them in Substance painter ? What is the purpose of painting /texturing in Substance painter ?? Appreciate if anyone can clear my noob question

I have downloaded a mesh from the internet and make some changes in Blender. When I export it to FBX from Blender and open in Substance painter to create some textures, there is not sharp painting. Image below.

See your UVs in the UV Editor, they are very small, scale them up, or unwrap with the Smart UV Project option so that you have less face distortions, and paint again, you should have a better resolution:
