Overview of Fudan University:
Fudan University was established by Mr. MA Xiangbo in 1905 as Fudan College. In 2000 Fudan University and Shanghai Medical University merged into one of the top comprehensive and research-oriented university covering a wider range of academic disciplines: the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering and medical sciences, etc.
At present, Fudan University has 28 schools and independent departments, 70 undergraduate programs, 229 master degree programs, 154 doctoral programs and 35 post-doctoral programs. It has 11 state key first level disciplines, 19 state key second level disciplines, 4 national key laboratories, 4 Ministry of Education engineering research centers, 14 Ministry of Education key laboratories, 9 Ministry of Health key laboratories, 5 “985 Project” science and technology innovation platforms, 7 “985 Project” philosophy and social science research bases. It also has over 2600 full time faculty members, among whom there are 35 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
In early 1990s, Fudan was selected as one of the first group of “211 Project” key universities. Years later, it ranked among the first group of key “Project 985” universities in 1998.
