hey guys (and gals) I'll be sort of organizing this event. So, what
do you want to focus more on at the first meeting? I kinda want to do
nerdier electronic music things such as hardware hacking/ circuit
bending and also musical programming languages/live coding.

But if you guys (and gals) want to more so cover computer music
programs like logic cubase reason and the type, thats totally cool
too. Have any cool hardware? Bring it! We can discuss genres of
electronic music, and discuss production techniques on how to get
"signature" sounds in particular genres.

I'm planning to bring some hardware, an Elektron Machinedrum UW to be
exact. It's a very nifty percussion synth with onboard sampling. Kind
of a do-all box that can carry an entire liveset. I'll have a midi
link and a midi to USB converter box on me too, although I don't know
much about that stuff. My strong suit is aesthetics, so I guess I
could speak on building textures and atmospherics, and what individual
sound elements one should compile in the process of making a sonic
landscape.

Once you're capable of making a good sonic "space" you can apply the
knowledge to most of the electronic music genres pretty easily. And
building ambient soundscapes is FUN!

Sure! The machinedrum is a nice piece of gear, just make sure you
bring maybe a small amplifier so we can hear some demos.

I'm coming in from the city, I'll see if I can grab an amp. But what
would be best is a small stereo system with inputs. If anyone in your
area has that it would make things a LOT easier.

Ill bring an amp, since I am closer. Possibly the stereo at the space has aux inputs. Ill check next time in there

Awesome. I'm most interested in the hardware, interfaces and analog
synthesis, and music related computer languages side of things and
would like to see that the most.
If I manage something interesting with the cannibalized hardware i
have I'll bring it.

It might be a good idea for us to get several sound sources together
for the night.... I'm assuming other people will have computers, some
hardware, and I'll have a piece of gear.

If we can't get a mixer to run everything together, then we might want
to have more than one amp.

but of course, i'm only talking about an ideal situation.
we'll do what we can with whatever we have access to.

I have a little 12 channel mackie board i can bring with XLR/TRS/RCA inputs.

I think it would be a good idea if everyone were to label any cables they bring with their full name on a piece of masking tape. Including power cables.

definitely bring it.

Do we all have a basic understanding of synthesis and sound physics,
or do we want to discuss concepts like Attack, Decay, Sustain and
Release?

Either way is fine, for me. I think it's possible to sum most of the
basics up in 10-15 minutes. Or, if we're all familiar with that stuff,
we could skip straight to the main event...

And that's up to you, Alex: where or with what topic would you like to
start?

ok, so. i was thinking about it and i think we should cover basics if
we have people who are unfamiliar with this topic. I've devised a
"game" that might make it a bit more fun if there are enough people
who are up to the challenge. step one: brainstorm topics. step 2, put
topics into a hat. step 3: take turns pulling topics out and give a 2
minutes or less overview of topic (yes you will be timed)

as for a main event, since people are supposedly bringing gear, it
would be nice to have a demo of everything....and then from there,
whatever people want to talk about.

Hey, for next time, is there any way we could make it a friday or
saturday night thing?
Less of us would have work/school the next day and we could run a bit
later!
