FTPeeps,
A quick note to say happy spring from here. The snow is mostly
melted, the greenhouse is filling up and we have some
new
fabulous staff gearing up to welcome the 2015 cohort in just
over a month! We are thinking of you all, hoping this finds you
getting dirt under your finger nails, gearing up for a fabulous
season wherever you are. Come visit if you are near. Stay in touch
if you are not. We will have another alumni event this fall, so we
will keep you posted.
Also, in case any of you are looking for a farming gig in VT, see
below for a compelling opportunity that just came across my desk.
Best,
Susie & team FTP
Hoping you can all pass this info along to anyone you think
might be interested in this farm start-up in Charlotte VT.
The down and dirty: a family owns 30+ acres in
an ideal location right off route 7 near shelburne and has permits
for a building envelope (farm stand and eventual wedding venue,
ect) They will have farmer housing next year. They are looking for
a farm manager to be there this year. They would consider
splitting the position as well.
What they have: heated garages, barns (4), open
land, lake views, historic structures, ponds. They also have folks
to maintain the landscape and folks to plow/till/etc the ag
fields.
What they need: They're looking for someone to
take creative control of the ag side. Grow a decent amount of
veggies, plant perennial fruits, flowers and in the future poultry
and sheep. They need a manager to make a plan, organize and
implement a growing operation starting this season. They can pay a
farm manager and are hoping to have someone invested in the long
term goals -- and to become a partner in their venture.
The owners are highly business minded and have strong financial
management skills. If you have any interest please be in touch
with me. I'm helping them out because they were generous enough to
let me store the timber frame I dismantled in their barn. They are
wonderful people!
Hopefully you are someone you know would be a strong fit for
this awesome opportunity!!
Cheers,
--
