Position: Health Educator
Location: 1540 Market Street, Ste. 130

Reports to: Executive Director
Salary: Negotiable
Start Date: December 1, 2007
Position Description:
The Health Educator will conduct community outreach, individual risk reduction counseling session, HIV prevention workshops , conduct magnet events in San Francisco and the East Bay and develop and implement workshops.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and distribute culturally competent and appropriate HIV/AIDS informational outreach, including Safer Sex kits, to target population.
Develop culturally competent and appropriate HIV/AIDS informational workshop curriculum and informational materials with the target population.
Work with community groups and organizations to coordinate educational efforts in places where Native Americans, primarily MSMs, frequent and provide safer sex kits, educational and behavioral information.
Provide community outreach and health education in locations where Native Americans congregate on the streets of San Francisco and area powwows and other cultural events.
Make appropriate referrals to HIV/AIDS counseling and testing, HIV/AIDS social services, drug and alcohol treatment centers, medical, health, legal and financial assistance services;
5. Organize, develop and conduct community events.
Document all HIV prevention efforts and changes in observed attitudes and behaviors within the target population through daily logs, weekly summaries and monthly reports;
Collect evaluative data from contacts;
Participate in month staff meetings and program team meetings.

Qualifications:
Experienced in cultural sensitivity and competency to the Native American and LGBT/Two Spirit communities.
Familiar with HIV testing and the principles of HIV prevention and harm reduction
Knowledgeable of available community resources for persons living with HIV/AIDS or those who are at high risk for HIV infection/
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to work directly and openly with target population, specifically Native American men who have sex with men.
Must have a valid drivers license and own transportation.
A minimum of 2 years experience in the HIV field and/or AA degree.
