Psionics,
I am writing today to update the team on UIL and request feedback regarding team member interest in Avni's outreach (Sigmas) and/or the Maker Faire outreach (Philobots).
With regard to our application to participate in the upcoming UIL competition, we have still received no response from the organizers but remain on the short list.
With regard to the two outreaches previously described for the 13th and 14th of May, I am requesting feedback from team members so the Psionics don't leave Avni and Joseph (Maker Faire/Philos contact) hanging. Joseph just emailed a couple of days ago stating that any of our team members wanting to participate are welcome, even if our robot is being used elsewhere.
As a reminder of the two outreach opportunities available to us on the 13th and 14th of May, I have attached a copy of my previous email to the team. Neither of these two outreaches is mandatory, but I need to deliver a count of those Psionics interested in attending to the two individuals organizing the events. Participation or lack thereof will not affect my evaluation of you. I'm very proud of your performance this year and continue to think the Psionics is the best team in Westlake FTC!
Copy of earlier email:
"Psionics,
In addition to hugging your mom, celebrating her day, and thanking her for everything she's done to get you this far in life, there are a few other opportunities available during the weekend of May 13-14 that I would like to bring to your attention:
1. The Psionics have been requested to attend the Maker Faire. This event is an outreach supporting the Philobots. Traditionally (the past three years), WHS Robotics has been well represented and provided most of the outreach. Both Coach Norman and Joseph Asfouri, representing the Philos, are encouraging participation in this event. The Philobots will be organizing the FIRST booth, at which they invite FIRST teams to demo their robots to attendees. Presentations consist of demoing the team robot on this year's Velocity Vortex field and speaking with those in attendance about FTC and FIRST. Maker Faire is held at the Palmer Events Center with FRC, FLL, and other FTC teams from around Texas. Thousands of people and several international "Makers" will be in attendance.
A Google Form is available to sign up for remaining Westlake FTC team presentation time slots at:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DfUwP_jwAptjsWuuZwb6CUtae_eDjMsazwp4T7Hdono/htmlview
Each four hour-long time slot is
limited to a maximum of two Westlake FTC Teams. Questions should be directed to Joseph at
phil...@gmail.com
2. Avni has requested to demo the Psionics robot for an outreach benefiting the Sigmas on May 13. This outreach will take place in a hospital performing a demo of its hospital assistant robot and celebrating Stem day. Since there are currently only three, the hospital needs more smaller-sized robots (FTC with cool components) to show. This is not a Psionics outreach, but having another drivable robot would help raise awareness of Westlake Robotics, FTC, and assist with the marketing of FIRST.
3. Psionics alum Helen He has forwarded information on HackATX, the first all-girl’s hackathon for high schoolers in Central Texas. HackATX is a 12-hour hackathon happening on May 13th from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. that is 100% free and meant for girls of all experience levels. There will be plenty of qualified mentors to assist students in creating their projects as well as workshops and speakers to help students learn more about technology, computer science, and building cool stuff, giving everyone an equal chance to win prizes. There will also be plenty of food, free swag, incredible speakers, and a chance to show off the projects to the public!
Please let me know if any Psionics might be interested and available to participate in either or both of the first two events. If Maker Faire seems interesting to you, please review the times available and let me know when you would like to present so the team can settle on a time. I realize the 13-14th is a busy weekend close to finals, but it's important for members to be aware of every remaining opportunity to participate in showing off Psimone, represent Westlake FTC, and enjoy being a Psionic.
Thanks!
Coach Doug."
A prompt response would be appreciated, so I can answer Avni and Joseph accordingly.
Thanks!
Coach Doug.
