Dear all,

One aspect of Freedom Walk(www.freedomwalk.in) is to project
Technology and thereby Free Software as a solution for activists.
Since we will also be getting in touch with the people through the
media we will need to get the following angle also correct.

How is Free Software relevant for the common man?

This can be broken down into two - How is technology relevant for the
common man? How does Free Software become relevant in this context?
This has to be concrete and not abstract. I have created a basic
framework of discussion. Please help me in filling this out. We need
to make this as fool proof as possible.

How is Technology relevant for the common man?

Education
Access shared knowledge over the internet
Low cost dissemination of information
Access without any discrimination
Window to the world
Tools to learn different areas - eg: Dr. Geo, Stellarium
Computer - Literally one book with infinite content
Power to process information - programming

Agriculture
To know about latest technologies and methods
To get help from experts outside local area
Collect and process information scientifically
Easier accounting and book keeping

Governance
Broadcasting information from the Authorities
Avoid corruption, bureaucracy, nepotism
Save on travel, queues, waiting for getting govt services
Transparent and accountable

Market
Ability to expose local market manipulations by cartels or large shops
To know of better markets for producers and manufacturers
Easier accounting and book keeping for business owners
Exposure to bigger and wider markets

How to project Free Software as the technology solution for the masses

Advantages of Free Software

Mostly Free - Low Entry Barrier
Freedom to Use, Share, Distribute
Promotes communities inherently
Promotes user based support

Cheers
Anoop
