anyone tell me how to configure webcam in ubuntu????????????

Plug Your webcam in usb port
then open a terminal and type
$ lsusb
this will give the chipset and Manufacturer details.
Then Try a ubuntu utility applications -->Internet-->ekiga
If your webcam is a standard make there is no Problem it will work.
Otherwise you have to do more things

my webcam is usb,on board the laptop it worked fine in 8.10,

There is a very good lightweight program called cheese that can handle
virtually every webcam.
You can get cheese by keying the command below
sudo apt-get install cheese
or install via synaptic...
Now enjoy using your web cam.
