can you clearly state your confusion so that some one in the forum may
clear it for you, or else you can meet any of our members for a direct
clarification.......

Crossover cable and normal cable

There is an addition to the facts that said on the “networking basics
” class conducted last day. It was said that the normal cable that
connects a switch and computer in the network can not be used for
setting up a direct connection in between two computers. It can be
accomplished with the help of crossover cable (that is, if u loot a
cable from ur lab to setup a connection between two pcs in your
home.... It wont work!!!!)

my opinion :

Yesterday i read a magazine where there was a small qoute which
pointed out that, most of the todays laptop's network cards are having
powerful sensors that can sense and behave bravely for both the normal
cable and crossover cable. That is even if you do not have a crossover
cable and you connected a normal cable to another PC, the network
card may convert the normal cable and transfer data as if the second
PC feels it as a crossover connection.
Practically i have not tested this yet... So i think any of u can do
this if u have facilities.
FSUG members will get the confirmation soon...

The networkin basics class was helpful... an advanced troubleshooting
class is also needed in continuation to this.

Hello

Jindu You are correct, But Fundamentally  there is two cables, Most of the switches and latest laps can auto negotiate cable.    It is better to use a cross cable for connecting two systems. If you are using Latest Laps in both ends you can use straight cable also.
