Dear Senior ASTI Focal points,
As discussed during lunch break, please find attached the information
received from Gert Stad in relation to PPP calculation. All The steps
involved are in the email below.
I hope this will help you the further analysis of the financial data of
our respective countries.
Thank you.

Roland.

Dear Roland

What data are you trying to show exactly?

ASTI recently changed its benchmark year from 2005 to 2011, because the
World Bank did so as well. So, all our data in the new series of
factsheets and in regional reports will be reported in 2011 PPP dollars.
You know that when you go to the Ghana country page
(http://asti.cgiar.org/ghana) you can download complete datasets in:
Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators (ASTI) International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) 2033 K Street, NW Washington, DC 20006

- 2011 PPP dollars
- 2011 US dollars
- 2011 Ghanaian cedis
- 2005 PPP dollars

The datasets on the country pages are aggregated data for the country as
a whole.

If you want to calculate 2005 (or 2011) PPP dollar spending levels
yourself, you need to take the amount in current cedis, divide it by the
deflator, multiply by 100, and then divide by the PPP exchange rate.
Please find attached an Excel sheet with the official deflators and PPP
exchange rates, which I downloaded from the World Bank's World
Development Indicators website.
In the Excel sheet, you can find an example on how I calculated spending
for the Animal Research Institute in 2005 cedis, 2005 PPP dollars, 2011
cedis, and 2011 PPP dollars.
All you need to do is apply the same formulas in the worksheet you are
working on, and you should be able to convert everything yourself.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks
Gert-Jan
