Hi Guys,
Can you please forward to your sailors.
Hi All,
The Singapore Optimist Sailing teams have returned home, they wish to pass on their thanks to a whole multitude of people who helped out and also made them feel welcome at FSC. With special thanks to the good winds and the FSC sailors with whom they had fun training with.
International class regatta is on this weekend 26th & 27th of November at RFBYC. I encourage all sailors to attend, for our newer sailors this is the perfect opportunity to meet new friends, experience river sailing and try out your skills in a well organized and supported regatta. RFBYC will have sufficient support and rescue personnel to run this event. The Bronze and Silver Optimist events will be aimed at this early level of development with on water support /coaching provided by RFBYC
In the last round up I mentioned the opportunity to sail at Jervoise Bay Sailing Club for the three Saturday mornings whilst the international and local sailors battle it out in the Perth 2011.
Jervoise Bay have said that we are most welcome to utilise their facilities, JBSC normally sail on the Sunday and they look forward to sailing with us on the final weekend
That is Saturday the 3rd, 10th and Sunday 18th of December - can all interested sailors Bronze, Silver and Gold Optimist also 4.7 lasers - please contact your section representative and let them know by this Friday 25th November, if you are interested in this proposal. As soon as we are able to determine who will be travelling to Jervoise Bay we can work out the logistics.
Please note for these three weekends the FSC ribs will be utilized by the Perth 2011 team, we will need to use our members Boats, RIBs or Tinnies – can you please let me know (also by Friday 25th November) if you have a boat, rib or tinnie and are able to assist on all or any of the above.
In a role reversal one of the high lights of Saturdays sailing was coming across David Gilmour in the sadly non functioning WAIS rib being towed back into the harbour by a 420
Please see below some section reports for your information.
Bronze - Don Elks
The Bronze fleet is growing each week, great to see new faces, our existing sailors are are improving in great leaps, last week demonstrated that so magnificently. Having built confidence in the small pond in windy conditions, were towed up the channel, past the Silver fleet who watched with amazement, as they did a special downwind run back to the beach. Steve, Helen and Don appreciate the way that parents and supporters take time to watch the coaches go through various aspects of sailing and then work with the sailors to help them learn.
Look forward to seeing you each Saturday 8.45 for 9am start up to Christmas, though we may have to work out how we are going to manage during the Perth 2011 event, we will work it out somehow. (inserted by KC - see item re Jervoise Bay above) Some sailors have invited friends, you may not be aware that new sailors are welcome to start at any time.
4.7 Lasers Will Elks
The Saturday morning coaching session for Laser 4.7’s aims to promote a friendly, relaxed yet competitive environment through a series of club races that encourages sailing at all levels. Throughout the
racing I provide constant feedback to the sailors on their strategic and technical progress. The training provided it tailored not only towards the sailors who are looking to further build on their knowledge but also for sailors who come for a relaxed weekend sail and are looking for no more than enjoyment. Our fleet has grown and consolidated over the last few seasons, currently with 6 regular sailors. This is a number we are aiming to expand.
Lasers Don Elks
FSC Senior Dinghies is grateful to the visionaries behind the Perth 2011 event, the organisers for running this event, the sponsors including FSC for making it all possible. What a rare and incredible period for Fremantle sailors, an inspiration for all, as we witness one of the greatest Laser fleets ever assembled in our home port. FSC, well represented at Sail Sydney and Melbourne Regattas, are now seeing preparation for Perth2011 and Nationals in Brisbane with training most days alongside international competitors. The ENP Camp, starting later in the month, will host many familiar faces who have or will be returning to Perth. Please talk to Don Elks and AB about on water support and training on most days during the lead up.
Finns Tim Castles
The Finn fleet is slowly growing, with 3 regular sailors now owning boats. It was great to have Anthony (in his shiny new boat) and Tim at the IOC. With 2011 just around the corner our Finn sailors are taking advantage of the great level of competition around FSC at the moment and are joining in with the top sailors in the world (inc. Ben Ainslie!)
It is promising that several more people have made enquiries into buying boats, so expect to see the Finns in stronger numbers very soon!
Kind Regards
Keith Charlwood
