Hello every one.

Dinghy Future

Thank you to everyone who attended the development and coaching meeting. As well as the parents and sailors, the FSC Commodore Gary, Vice Commodore Bob , CEO Rob, and Sailing Administrator Steve joined us to express their support for dinghy sailing at FSC.  To summerise:

With the large number of members training/sailing at FSC we need to ensure that we can cater for their current and future needs, we also need to acknowledge that there are simply too many sailors to be covered by a single coach (regardless of his amazing skills). With this in mind Arthur and Don have developed a learning and development program which will provide the necessary structure  to go from learning to sail to competition.

This program will cater for the expected future growth in members and allow Arthur to move onto the next stage which is the guidance and mentoring of coaching personnel to further develop  Fremantle Sailing Club’s Learning and Development program as a center of excellence

Alongside the coaching program we need to ensure that we have sufficient access to water, ribs, training aids and boat storage. If we continue to grow at this rate what will the Dinghy section look like in say 2015? So as parents its time to get involved be part of what’s going on and help as able. Are you a bosun assistant, a on water support, a canteen assistant?

Arthur Brett will periodically  be working with Laser sailor Paul Goodison and  the British Olympic team.  This is a fantastic opportunity for Arthur, to be working with coaches and sailors at such a level and then to utilize this knowledge, will be fantastic for FSC sailors. I know you all join with me in wishing Arthur all the best with this. (but don’t do too good a job, Go Aussies)

Arthur’s availability for coaching at Fremantle between now and June is:

March 5 - 21

April 9 – 28

May 12 – 28

Over the coming months (whilst here and away) Arthur will continue to provide guidance to coaches, Tim Gourlay (RSX), Tim Castles and Russell Mc Govern (Lasers), Tessa Parkinson (420’s). Optimists coaching is still in negotiation and I hope to be able to provide more information soon.

We also discussed some possible social activities with the Laser and 420 sailors accepting the challenge to come up with some amazing activities by the end of March. FSC dinning room is working on family friendly food and we want dinghy  to have a regular dinner get together.

And finally the we voted the winner of thesmall TT logo design a T shirt competition – the entries for this competition were outstanding - congratulations to Ella Clarke I am in discussion with the merchandise  folks at FSC so we hope to have the t-shirts available soon for you all to purchase

Now onto the Sailing

Friday night saw round 1 of the Teams racing fixtures where  FSC came in second to RFBYC with the scores at 1-4. This score line belies the competitiveness of the team on the water and considering that this was the first time they had been together I am certain that Sam & Ezra, Nia & Zane and Chris & Jordie will develop into a formidable team. Sarah, Elliot Alistair and Harry are all involved and will be interchanging as able

I would like to thank all sailors who volunteered for these positions and also would like to thank Tessa and Sean as well as all those that volunteered to help. This week we are at SOPYC.

For all sailors that are interested in Teams racing I encourage you to attend Teams Racing training on Thursday nights. Arthur has suggested  you  come along to gain some valuable experience and maybe next year we will have enough interested people to put forward two teams.

Saturday morning we had Bronze fleet on the little pond, Silver fleet on the little and big ponds plus on the ocean training and racing with the Gold fleet, Lasers out with Will and one pacer

Saturday afternoon conditions were a little challenging Race one had several lasers, 1 x 420 and 1 x board, this was reduced to a few laser sailors in race 2, Chris was the only Musto skipper. Still light on but I am sure many will be returning soon .

I especially want to thank race officers Wendy and Selwyn for going beyond the call of duty, without any complaint and running the races from not so dry FSC rib .

The new start boat remains in discussion and this is gathering speed. I hope to bring some good news soon.

Upcoming Events.

Royal Perth minis Series is on this weekend. I can only encourage all sailors to take part. See RPYC site for details and entrance information.

As per the FSC sailing calendar here is no racing on Saturday. Bronze fleet optimists will train, and if there will be limited support for silver optimist training as many of the volunteers will be at RPYC cheering on the kids. All other fleets will not be training.

Optimist State Championships at HYC 3-5th March. Notice of Race is not yet available but I have been told its out this week. Gold and silver will be racing.

Laser States all fleets at SOPYC 3-5th March NOR on SOPYC and Laser Association web sites

420 States FSC 3-5th march Notice of Race FSC and 420 Association Websites.

Can you please mention this weekly roundup to as many as possible. I am still hearing from people that they are not on their respective fleet list .

Around the Buoys

FSC dinghy club will now be making regular contributions so we can share our amazing achievements with the full membership. Thanks Cailtin for her contribution. I will be asking sailors/families/committee members to assist with this.

Cheers

Keith Charlwood

Dinghy Captain
