But it was Dean Martin (Dino Crocetti) who, with a suave wink and a smile, delivered some of the most memorable Christmas songs: "It's a Marshmallow World," "Winter Wonderland," "Let It Snow!" and "Baby, It's Cold Outside." And when Martin and Sinatra team up to sing "Auld Lang Syne," you can almost picture the two old friends as they sing together, arm around shoulder, "Should auld acquaintance be forgot / And never brought to mind?"

In 1990, he reunited with Scorsese and De Niro for Goodfellas, in which he played mobster Tommy DeVito, based on real-life mobster Thomas DeSimone (Tommy DeVito also being the name of Pesci's old acquaintance from Belleville, New Jersey, and a member of The Four Seasons, but contrary to popular belief, the naming is coincidental).[5] Pesci's old friend Frank Vincent also appears in the film. Pesci's character kills Vincent's character in a rage in one of the best-remembered scenes in the film after the Vincent character contemptuously tells him to "go home and get your fucking shine box". According to Pesci, improvisation and ad-libbing came out of rehearsals wherein Scorsese let the actors do whatever they wanted. He made transcripts of these sessions, took the lines the actors came up with that he liked best, and put them into a revised script that the cast worked from during principal photography.[13]

The Scottish poet Robert Burns wrote Auld Lang Syne in 1788, referring to the piece as an old song in a letter to his patron. Indeed multiple poems and songs make use of the famous first verse, which poses the question, "Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to min'?" The Scots Musical Museum published the song in 1796, but it wasn't for another sixty-four years until the Royal Association for the Promotion of the Fine Arts in Scotland published Auld Lang Syne, by Robert Burns, illustrated by George Harvey, R.S.A., held in the Ingalls Library collection. The latter artist, president of the Royal Scottish Academy, worked primarily as a genre and landscape painter. His five paintings featured alongside the poem, and expertly engraved by Lumb Stocks R.A., illustrate idyllic scenes of Scottish life and folklore. Examples from the fifth verse are seen above and below. The volume found its way to the library via Henry Payne McIntosh, Sr. in 1917, then Chairman of the Board of the Guardian Savings & Trust Company. In addition to this gift which arrived with several volumes of illustrated poems by Robert Burns, McIntosh donated several etchings by Turner to the museum. Additionally a piece of 17th century Italian needlepoint, was donated in memory of his late wife by textile collector Max Littwitz. It is concerning this final piece that Frederick Allen Whiting, director of the museum writes to McIntosh, on 12 July 1919, informing him of its installation in gallery III with a group of lace. McIntosh writes back in thanks five days later, closing with, "I have informed my children and some friends of this fact so that they may view it." For auld lang syne then, auld acquaintance should not be forgot.

This was an article I felt like writing. For two reasons; the first: explaining three professions, show how different they are but at the same time, connected and indispensable to each other. The second: trying to unravel the confusion around these figures which is still very strong even today, in the era of TV series. It all started from a simple everyday situation. The other day I met an old acquaintance and, at one point, there was the following exchange:

On Friday, November 25, 2022 at 4:11 pm, Bensalem Police received a 9-1-1 call about a possible homicide. The caller stated that her daughter received an Instagram video chat from a 16-year-old acquaintance. During the video chat, the 16-year-old stated that he had just killed someone. He then flipped the video image and showed the legs and feet of someone covered in blood. He then asked for assistance with disposal of the body.

10.46am. An old acquaintance of Spanish football could be set to return, as Borja Valero may be on his way to Getafe. After spending seven years in Italy, and rejecting an offer to go to China, the midfielder seems destined for LaLiga Santander.
