February brings the annual GRAFTING WORKSHOP AND SCION EXCHANGE to SEEDS in Durham. We are holding this event outside to keep everyone safe. Masks and distancing protocols will be observed. (There should be heaters, but dress warmly anyway).
GRAFTING WORKSHOP AND SCION EXCHANGE - Saturday, February 13nd, 2021. 11-1pm. FREE. No experience necessary. No need to register.
Learn how to create fruit trees that grow multiple varieties. Introduce new fruit options to a crowded yard. Be a mad scientist!
Grafting is the process of attaching one variety of plant to a different variety of plant (such as a Fuji apple onto a Gala apple tree). The workshop includes a grafting demonstration that will show you
how to graft and
what plant combinations will be successful. Supplies for grafting will be provided.
If you have fruit trees, please bring labeled "scions" (twigs) from your plants to exchange with other participants. The more plant varieties people bring-- the better! Participants are encouraged to visit
https://trianglefruitandnutgrowers.weebly.com/collect-scions.html for tips on how to collect scions to bring to the exchange.
I'll be bringing lots of scions from my backyard orchard. Fig cuttings, apples, pears, persimmons, mulberries, peaches, nectarines, plums, medlar, apricot, pomegranate, kiwi, cherry, pawpaw... The workshop and exchange takes place OUTSIDE at SEEDS in Durham.
