Fruit & Nut friends,
Last year I transplanted a maypop vine (Passiflora incarnata) and it thrived -- and has come up again this year, not surprisingly, as about 10 different plants. However, I've heard that I need two plants to produce fruit. I'm unclear if this means two genetically distinct individuals, or if the volunteers (which I assume are clones from the first transplant) qualify as "different" plants.
So, I'm looking for (1) advice and (2) depending on the advice, perhaps another vine from one of you. Do you know if I need two distinct individuals, or are these different vines (which, again, I assume are clones) sufficient to enable fruiting? And, if I need different genetic material, does anyone have a vine you're willing to let me take off your hands?
Many thanks,
Rob Fetter
