Date: Tuesday March 6th
Place: Central Denver-- 2000 Clay Street, Suite 300 (spitting distance
from Mile High Stadium)
Time: 6:15PM
Topic: Rolling With PostGIS
Bruce Rindahl will walk through step-by-step the installation process
of the PostgreSQL/PostGIS combination (for Windows). Walk in with
your laptop, walk out with an enterprise-level spatial database.
After the installation piece, we'll demo some web apps powered by
PostGIS: 1) Bruce will show an SVG browser-based web map and 2) I'll
show a Google Earth app that streams hundreds of thousands of features
from PostGIS, with some on-the-fly spatial analysis tools
(buffers, intersections, etc.) that give a glimpse of the power of
server GIS with open-source assets on the backend.
Spread the word as this will be an excellent opportunity to see both
how to get going with PostGIS as well as get a glimpse at real life
web apps that provide a compelling end-user experience often lacking
in other web mapping packages.
In order to appropriately gauge refreshment demand, let us know if
you're planning on attending.
Thanks,
Brian
I attended Paul Ramsey's Introduction to PostGIS workshop at FOSS4G last
year. I have a copy of the 45 page getting started guide. It covers
installation on windows, a bit of setup, and a number of example
queries. If you don't have something like this, it might be useful for
putting together your demo. Let me know, and I can get a copy to you.
Oh look, here's a similar version on the web:

It looks like it uses the old installer.

March 8th works for me.
