Figured I'd start a new thread so this doesn't all get lost in the
Yahoo thread.
Good news today - Matthew gained weight. After sitting at 10.3kg from
some time he suddenly jumped up to 10.7. Wow, a good jump, I'm happy
with that and that puts him back on the chart decently again.
The Ped. did say his belly does look distend and of course it's hard
to say why. Could just be bloating like I suspect, but could be
something else. She said it had a bit of a classic Celiac look ...
but he's on a gluten-free diet so he shouldn't be aggravated in that
area. The question becomes if it's bloating or distended what are
we feeding him that's creating this?? Is it the soy? I sort of
suspect this since the first bit we put him on soy his gut didn't
tolerate it but then he slowly got better so we left him on. I don't
know that I can remove anything more from his diet. He pretty much
survives on rice and I don't like that. I recently had to back off on
most fruits and veggies again because of a few flare-ups that weren't
getting better at the normal speed. I also had to remove millet and
quinoa because he kept getting a rash on his face when he was eating
them ... bad time of year to make judgement on that since it's winter
(and a cold one at that) so it's so dry that skin rashes are norm ...
but it did ease up when I removed these.
Anyways ... you all know about the ups and downs of dealing with
stomach issues .... we continue on those rides, hoping they will
stabalize soon.
Matthew will also be going for a cystic fibrosis test due to a night
time cough that he continues to have. We don't really think that he
has CF but we're ruling it out. It's more then likely asthma.
Rebecca also has asthma and asthma is commonly linked with allergies.
But since our family likes to have all the weird and odd and not-so-
wonderful things she feels it's a good idea to just rule it out ..
especially considering I ignored James nighttime cough thinking it was
asthma and I was very wrong on that one. At least our Ped is good
enough to know how odd we are and likes to cover all basis. We'll be
putting him back on puffers for a trial to see if that helps - which
will then pretty much confirm asthma.
