Sesotho Weekend in Morija
Morija Guest Houses will be hosting its last 'Introduction to Sesotho Language and Culture Weekend’ for this year, from 8th to 10th November 2013. Aimed particularly at people who have recently arrived in Lesotho, the weekends enable them to gain confidence when attempting to speak Sesotho, to acquire useful knowledge of Lesotho's history and Basotho culture, and generally to feel more comfortable in their new situation. The language learning sessions are not intensive as the emphasis is on ensuring participants feel encouraged, not overwhelmed. In between the language sessions, we have discussions on culture and we go for hikes to explore the beautiful environment. Children are welcome and will be kept happily occupied during the language sessions.

Basotho filmmaker needs your help! Phillip Leteka is an aspiring filmmaker (Writer/Director/Cinematographer) born and raised in Maseru. Though he got acquainted with the medium at an early age, it was only in 2010 when he worked as an intern on Ts'asa, a small budget non-commercial film funded by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and as Grips and Lighting Assistant on Kau La Poho Part 2 the following year. Both of these films tackle issues surrounding HIV/AIDS. In the fall of 2009, Phillip enrolled at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology to study Broadcasting and Journalism, which was the only film related program he could do at the time. While at Limkokwing, he made his own short films, mostly experimental. He recently graduated with a BA (Hons) from Limkokwing. Phillip, together with his partner Tokoloho Masemene (Writer/Director) are about to make another short film called Cellphone, longer than any of his previous films. Therefore he’s looking for donations from interested individuals in order to get this story told. A minimum budget for the film is M2000 and principal photography, set to last for a week, will commence in early December. Contributors in the film include actors who are doing it on a voluntary basis and most of the filming equipment is borrowed from friends. All money collected will be used solely for transport and lunch for the artists. All contributors to the project will be acknowledged and credited in the film. Here is a short description of the short film: Title: Cellphone. Duration: 25mins. Premise: A young man mysteriously finds himself in a sinister closet unknown to him. The only thing to lead him to rescue is his cellphone. The clock is ticking. With only his cellphone to rely on, will help arrive or will he be just another victim of a kidnap? Kick4Life has recently launched a fun, interactive HIV/AIDS and life-skills program for 18-24 year olds, and is looking for groups to work with. The program - Pusha Love Chomees - consists of ten sessions, which cover a range of topics: including goal-setting, healthy relationships, communication skills, facts about HIV/AIDS, gender issues, and tackling stigma and discrimination. Each session lasts one hour and twenty minutes. The sessions are led by trained Kick4Life coaches, and use games, activities and discussions to convey key facts and messages. We have coaches based in Maseru central, Morija, Roma, Thaba Bosiu, Mapoteng, TY, Maputsoe and Hlotse. Coaches are able to travel to groups anywhere in or around those communities. We are extremely flexible and can work with groups whenever is convenient for them to meet - including on weekends!
