‘MAGIC PLACES’ NATIONAL ART TEACHERS CONFERENCE – 6 September
A National Art Teachers Conference will be held at the Ladybird International Arts Academy in Ladybrand on Saturday, 6 September 2014 for educators of prep/primary schools, high schools and adult-learners who are responsible for the learning areas Arts & Culture or Visual Arts at their school, private studios or home-schools. The Conference will offer engaging opportunities and ideas to enrich and inspire art educators. The vision is to bring educators and artists together to share, inspire, nurture, educate, and enjoy fine art, in order to implement this into the educational programmes for their learners. The presenters are Thandi Sliepen (An artist and educator living and working in South Africa; Head of Fine Art Ladybird International Arts Academy); Patrick Rorke (Artist and educator; Director Morija Arts Festival and Arts Center, Lesotho); Philippa du Toit (Potterer and artist living in South Africa; Director Mud Studio South Africa, UK and USA), and Lionah Chimara (Dutch born artist, poet, music-maker and educator; living between The Netherlands, South Africa and France). “Magic places…” (Thandi Sliepen); Teaching by Example and Collaboration (Patrick Rorke); Making the Masters Fun! CELLO AND PIANO CONCERT IN LADYBRAND – 19 September
A duo consisting of Anmari van der Westhuizen (cello) and Ilse Schumann (piano) will visit Ladybrand on Friday, 19 September for a scintillating concert of works by Grieg, Kreisler and Chopin. Schumann lives in Austria and Van der Westhuizen in Cape Town. She is also a member of the UFS Odeion String Quartet.
