Join us on Saturday December 11th at 9 am to hear from Nellie Jo David and Amber Ortega about indigenous resistance and the struggle to defend land and water in the borderlands. Please help spread the word!

Amber Ortega, a spoken word poet and indigenous defender of land and traditions and Nellie Jo David, lawyer and indigenous defender of land and autonomy, will be speaking about the struggle to defend a sacred O’odham place: the ancient waterhole called 'A'al Waippia (now known as Quitobaquito Springs).
The purpose of this webinar series is to bring international attention to indigenous struggles in their fight to defend land and water on both sides of the border. The hope is to build connections, solidarity and gather support for communities defending their territories. Both the Food Bank of Southern Arizona and the Borderlands Program of the Sierra Club are working to provide the space, service and resources to supporting first nations with their struggles in defending sacred water and land, as we recognize that we are located in occupied land and directly benefit from the resources taken from it.

Amber Ortega, poeta de la palabra hablada y defensora indígena de la tierra y las tradiciones, y Nellie Jo David, abogada y defensora indígena de la tierra y la autonomía, hablarán sobre la lucha para defender un lugar sagrado de los O'odham: el antiguo pozo de agua llamado 'A'al Waippia (ahora conocido como manantiales de Quitobaquito).
El propósito de esta serie de webinarios es atraer la atención internacional a las luchas indígenas en su lucha por defender la tierra y el agua en ambos lados de la frontera. La esperanza es construir conexiones, solidaridad y reunir apoyo para las comunidades que defienden sus territorios. Tanto el Banco de Alimentos del Sur de Arizona como el Programa de Territorios Fronterizos del Sierra Club están trabajando para proporcionar el espacio, el servicio y los recursos para apoyar a las Naciones Originarias con sus luchas en la defensa del agua y la tierra sagrada, ya que reconocemos que estamos ubicados en tierras ocupadas y nos beneficiamos directamente de los recursos que se toman de ellas.
