Accomplice detained for murders of Benjamin LeBaron and Luis Widmar

Thanks to an anonymous phone call, military personnel captured Ubaldo
Ivan Rohan Nunez, 27, AKA "La Campa" in Nuevo Casas Grandes, who as a
member of the Juarez Cartel who participated as a look-out in the
kidnapping of Eric LeBaron Ray and in the subsequent homicides of
Benjamin LeBaron and Luis Carlos Widmar Stubbs.
The events that he is accused of first occurred with the kidnapping of
Eric LeBaron on May 2, 2009, and the assassination of Benjamin LeBaron
and Luis Widmar that followed on July 7, 2009.
Rohan Nunez was detained when driving a red 2002 Chevrolet pick-up,
without plates. A AR-15 caliber .223 was found inside the truck.
Thanks to the investigations carried out jointly by the Mexican Army
and the Attorney Generals of Justice of Chihuahua and the federal
Attorney Generals office, it could be established that Ubaldo Ivan,
who also sells cocaine in San Buenaventura, participated as a
"look-out" or "point man" in the criminal acts, as verified in a video
recorded in the presence of a public defender, in which Rohan Nunez
declared that he works selling cocaine for a subject by the name of
Jaime Gonzlez Pinon, AKA "El Marlboro" or "El Jimmy," who in turn
works for the Juarez Cartel and is originally from a settlement called
Lagunitas, municipality of Galeana.
He added that he sold the cocaine in the streets of San Buenaventura,
municipality of the same name, and that the "supplier" of the drug is
his uncle Jaime Gonzalez Pinon, and that the motive of the kidnapping
and subsequent murder of the Mormon who lived in Galeana was for
problems or conflicts between his uncle Jaime Gonzalez Pinon and Joel
LeBaron.
Furthermore, Calos Burtchereit, another man who was detained by the
Federal Police recently, said during interrogation that someone
nicknamed "La Campa," and nephew of Jaime Gonzalez, or "Jimmy
Gonzalez," told him of having participated together with others in the
kidnapping of Eric Lebaron and another individual by the name of "Lalo
Vega," who lives in Buenaventura."
Burtchereit expressly told the Federal Police that a nephew by the
name of Jaime, AKA "La Campa" participated in the kidnapping of Eric
Lebaron. Regarding these declarations, Ubaldo Ivan Rohan Nunez, La
Campa, said in an interview with Police:
1. That during the "kidnapping" of Eric Lebaron he was a look-out or
point man, that he was watching the highway so that when the Army or
any other kind of "Law" came along, he could warn his uncle Jaime
Gonzalez, AKA El Jimmy Gonzalez.
2.In the radio that he had with him, he heard someone talk to a
subject known as Angel Quezada, AKA Chabelo, saying that they had then
kidnapped Eric LeBaron.
3. He describes that "El Brutas," "El Cholo," and "El Chino" took part
in the kidnapping of Eric LeBaron, and that they held him in the
vicinity in a ranch called "Baqueteros."
4.He added that the kidnapping was planned by his uncle AKA El Jimmy
Gonzalez, and that he heard that 200,000 pesos were paid in ransom.
He declared that the people he mentioned in the kidnapping of Eric
LeBaron also participated in the death of Benjamin LeBaron and that he
learned of that by the radio at his disposal. He added that they used
a white Dodge truck, and a sand color Envoy truck.
When the acts related to Benjamin LeBaron occurred, he was in his spot
watching the highway with a black Kenwood radio, and he heard that
they were going after Benjamin LeBaron to settle the debts (even
scores) that he had with Jaime Gonzalez Pinon.
Those who went for Benjamin LeBaron to settle the debts, according to
what he heard on the radio, were El Chabelo, Cholo, Brutas, El Chino,
Diego, and El Diablo, and another five; he only knows that they work
for Eduardo Gallegos and that he knows that they used a white or cream
colored truck, because he saw it go by the village of Colonia Quevedo;
later, they left to take a ride up near the toll booth at Flores
Magon.
He was listening to what they were saying on the radio and heard
where they were headed; the two vehicles were "connected- a white
Suburban and another truck with 5 employees of Eduardo Gallegos, the
gunmen's boss, who works for Jaime Gonzalez, "El Jimmy" or "El
Marlboro."
The detainee remained in the custody of the PGR, for the crime of
carrying a firearm reserved for use only by the military.
Furthermore, today he was placed under disposition of an Individual
Guarantees Judge in the Accusatory Penal System, for his participation
in the crimes of kidnapping and homicide, the first charge for the
offense to Eric LeBaron Ray and the other for the murders of Benjamin
LeBaron Ray and Luis Carlos Widmar Stubbs.

Gracias a una llamada anónima, personal militar capturó en Nuevo Casas
Grandes a quien fue identificado como Ubaldo Iván Rohan Núñez, alias
"La Campa", de 27 años, integrante del Cártel de Juárez y quien
participó como vigilante en el secuestro de Eric LeBarón Ray y en los
posteriores homicidios de Benjamín LeBarón y Luis Carlos Widmar
Stubbs.
Los hechos que se le imputan ocurrieron, el primero, es decir el
secuestro de Eric LeBarón, el pasado 2 de mayo del año 2009, y el
asesinato de Benjamín LeBarón y Luis Widmar el 7 de julio cel mismo
año.
Rohan Núñez fue detenido cuando conducía una camioneta Chevrolet pick
up, sin placas, de color rojo y de modelo 2002, en cuyo interior se le
encontró un fusil AR-15 calibre .223.
Gracias a las indagatorias realizadas en conjunto entre el Ejército
mexicano y las procuradurías General de Justicia del Estado y General
de la República, se pudo establecer que Ubaldo Iván, quien además se
dedica a la venta de cocaína en San Buenaventura, participó como
“vigilante” o “punto” en los mencionados hechos delictivos, según
consta en una declaración videograbada con asistencia de un defensor,
en la que Rohan Núñez declaró que trabaja vendiendo cocaína para un
sujeto de nombre Jaime González Piñón, alias “El Marlboro” o “El
Jimmy”, quien a su vez trabaja para el Cártel de Juárez y es
originario del poblado denominado Lagunitas, municipio de Galeana.
Agrega que la cocaína la vendía en las calles de San Buenaventura,
municipio del mismo nombre y que quien le “surte” la droga es su tío
Jaime González Piñón; que el Móvil del secuestro y del posterior
homicidio de los mormones pobladores de Galeana fue por problemas o
conflictos entre su tío Jaime González Piñón con el señor Joel
LeBarón.
Por otro lado, Carlos Butchereit, otro hombre que fue detenido por la
Policía Federal en fechas pasadas, dijo en un interrogatorio que una
persona de apodo “La Campa”, y sobrino de Jaime González o “Jimmy
González”, le platicó haber participado junto con otros en el
secuestro de Eric Lebaron y de otro individuo de nombre “Lalo Vega”,
que vive en Buenaventura.
Utchereit expresó textualmente a la Policía Federal que en el
secuestro de Eric Lebaron participó un sobrino de Jaime, que le apodan
“La Campa”. Sobre estas declaraciones, Ubaldo Iván Rohan Núñez, alias
“La Campa”, dijo en la entrevista Policial:
1.- Que en el “secuestro” de Eric LeBarón fue vigilante o “punto”, que
estuvo cuidando la carretera para cuando entrara el Ejército o
cualquier otro tipo de “ley” avisar a su tío Jaime González, de apodo
“El Jimmy González”.
2.- En el radiocomunicador que traía escuchó hablar al sujeto que
conoce como Ángel Quezada, de apodo “Chabelo”, diciendo que ya habían
secuestrado a Eric LeBarón.
3.- Describe que en el secuestro de Eric LeBarón también participaron
“El Brutas”, “El Cholo” y “El Chino”, y lo tuvieron en las
inmediaciones y dentro del rancho denominado “Baqueteros”.
4.- Añadió que el secuestro lo planeó su tío “El Jimmy González” y se
enteró que pagaron de rescate doscientos mil pesos.
Que las personas que mencionó en el secuestro de Eric LeBarón también
participaron en la muerte de Benjamín LeBarón y que se enteró de esto
por el radio comunicador que utiliza. Incluso emplearon una camioneta
tipo Dodge, color blanco y una camioneta Envoy, color arena.
Que cuando ocurrió lo de Benjamín LeBarón se encontraba en su “punto”
o vigilando la carretera con un radio Kenwood, color negro, y escuchó
que iban por Benjamín LeBarón para saldarle cuentas pendientes que
tenía con Jaime González Piñón.
Los que fueron por Benjamín LeBarón para saldar cuentas, según se
enteró por el radio, eran “El Chabelo”, “Cholo”, “Brutas”, “El Chino”,
“Diego” y “El Diablo”, y otros cinco de quienes sólo sabe trabajan
para Eduardo Gallegos y que le consta utilizaron una camioneta color
blanco o crema porque la vio pasar por el pueblo Colonia Quevedo;
luego se fueron a dar vuelta por la caseta de cobro de Flores Magón.
Que estuvo escuchando en el radio lo que decían y a dónde se dirigían,
pues estaban “conectadas” una Suburban color blanco con otra camioneta
donde iban cinco trabajadores de Eduardo Gallegos, jefe de sicarios y
quien trabaja para Jaime González , "El Jimmy" o "El Marlboro".
El detenido quedó a disposición de la Procuraduría General de la
República por el delito de portación de arma de fuego de uso exclusivo
del ejército, Fuerza Aérea y Armada de México.
Además, hoy fue puesto a disposición de un juez de Garantía bajo el
Sistema Penal Acusatorio por su participación en los delitos de
secuestro y homicidio, el primero en agravio de Eric LeBarón Ray y
otro por el homicidio cometido en las personas de Benjamín LeBarón Ray
y Luis Carlos Widmar Stubbs.
