Subject: Two short videos remembering Padre Marcelo
Greetings, All,
I’d like to share with you two short videos on YouTube, both with Padre Marcelo Pérez Pérez in his own words about his work for social justice in Chiapas. If you haven’t heard about his murder, he was assassinated on October 20th after giving
mass in barrio Cuxtitali in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. The internet is full of recent articles with more information and remembrances.
The first video is an excerpt from the film, “Maya Faces in a Smoking Mirror,” by Bill Jungels. I also worked with Bill on the film. The excerpt is in Spanish with English subtitles. It addresses the ill-fated rural cities project in Chiapas.
Several weavers and friends of Weaving for Justice in Chenalhó, who struggled for justice alongside Padre Marcelo, are also interviewed in the film. The entire film is available to view on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZGNZY9QHf0
The second is an excellent interview with Padre Marcelo (in Spanish) when he was posted in Simojovel:
We’ll honor and remember Padre Marcelo on the ofrenda at the Weaving for Justice scholarship fundraiser this coming Friday and Saturday. I’ll also post these links in the WforJ November email newsletter.
Yours,
Christine
