Dear Molly,
I'm a longtime listera and former Annunciation House volunteer, and I've written a book about Annunciation House that comes out next week. I think it could interest some followers of FronteraList. Would you be willing to share the information and image below?
Respectfully,
Mary Fontana
A new border-related book Strangers in the Province of Joy: Practicing Radical Hospitality on the US-Mexico Border comes out on May 20 from Orbis Books. Written by a former volunteer, it tells the story of El Paso's Annunciation House through the voices of many guests and volunteers who have passed through its doors over its nearly fifty years of existence.
Former
Congressman Beto O'Rourke calls the book "a must-read" and beloved
border author Benjamin Alire Sáenz calls it "an important, necessary,
and heartbreaking book." El Paso Matters journalist Bob Moore writes: "For half a century, Annunciation House in El
Paso has been a rare beacon of hope in an increasingly dysfunctional
immigration system.... In her new book, Mary Fontana provides
the first detailed history of Annunciation House, documenting how volunteers
motivated by faith provided “radical hospitality” to hundreds of thousands of
migrants fleeing poverty and persecution."
Books can be ordered through your favorite independent bookstore, directly from Orbis (where through May you can use code PUBLTR at checkout for 25% off), or from the usual suspects (Amazon, Bookshop). There will also be books available for purchase at Annunciation House's Voice of the Voiceless solidarity dinner on May 23.
Thank you!
