An art exhibit by Gildalorena Martinez
"Ciudad de Arena y Sangre" (City of Sand and Blood)
Museo de Arqueologia del Chamizal
Calle Poeta Carlos Pellicer No. 1
Parque Chamizal, Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, C.P. 32030
Thursday 17, 7 p.m.
Gildalorena Martinez, an artist and a 20-year resident of Ciudad
Juarez, is exhibiting a collection of about 15 paintings called
“Ciudad de Arena y Sangre” (City of Sand and Blood). For the last two
years she has worked on a series responding as an artist and a
Juarense to the city's security and economic crisis. In the same two
years, she saw close friends die, was assaulted, got seriously ill,
lost most of her business as an art teacher as people left the city,
and continues to be unable to leave Ciudad Juarez due to a lengthy
ongoing process to migrate to the United States. Her work has been
exhibited in Cuba, Mexico City, El Paso and every important art space
in Juarez.

Chamizal, right after crossing into Juarez through the Americas
bridge. Google suggests this route but I would actually just turn
right before the curve right after the horses' sculpture and the
pyramid:
