I'm having an issue with the contacts list in Android Auto not syncing with my Google account contacts. I updated a few phone numbers in my GContacts but the changes don't reflect in Auto. I've tried clearing data and cache in Contacts app, Phone app, Google App, Assistant App, Waze app, and Android Auto app, as well as trying a force sync of GAccount. No luck. Any suggestions? TIA.
Other views that show contacts include Favorites (after the user has added favorites) and Recents (once the user has a call history). Users can start a search or place a call from any of these views, or from the Dialpad view.
Users can scroll vertically through the top-level Contacts list to browse their contacts, which are imported from their phones. Favorites and preferred phone numbers are not imported; users specify these within Dialer.
Android Auto is meant to simplify your phone experience so that you can keep your eyes on the road, but that simplification can sometimes be taken too far. For this reason, Google is adding the ability to view your full contacts list. That means that there are now four ways to call someone while connected to Android Auto.
Richard loves technology, namely Android flagships, as well as depreciated German cars that can be picked up for next to nothing on Craigslist. In other words, he enjoys throwing money away.Send him some electronic mail at ric...@androidpolice.com.
The process for saving a favorite contact depends on your vehicle. On some models, you can touch the Star icon behind the phone number in your contacts list. On other models, you can press and hold an empty favorite space in the bar at the top of the screen.
I just got a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and when I go into my settings then add an account and add a gmail account, it gives me an option to choose what I want to sync. I unchecked 'photos' and 'contacts' and everything else except for 'gmail', but it still auto sync'ed my photos and contacts (and my apps and app data, even though I told it not to). I then deleted the account and tried again but this time, I didn't check anything at all (not even gmail) and it did not sync anything, which is good. But I want to sync only my mail, so then I went into the settings for my account and checked only the 'sync gmail' box and it synced everything again (app, app data, contacts, photos). How do I make it stop syncing everything? I just want to sync my inbox.
you turn off the sync and open the mail app if it is gmail then it is easy as gmail app has its swipe down to refresh mails. but the android email app has no features like this so go to its settings to change it
Messaging apps work a little differently. If you have a compatible messaging app installed, you'll see a notification appear when you have a new message. You can tap Reply to speak your response, or use the automatic response command to let that chat know you're driving.
It's important that your contacts are easy to access while driving, and this means that you should keep your contact list clean and unambiguous. If you say "Call Matt" while driving and you have more than one contact matching that name, Assistant will ask you which Matt you wanted. Spending extra time on this will distract you from driving.
For best results, avoid duplicate contacts; add people's last names if needed to remove ambiguity. Don't have emojis or other strange characters in a contact's name that might confuse Google Assistant.
Also double-check if you have contacts split up into multiple entries, perhaps from long ago when you could only store one number per contact. You might not remember you have separate entries for "John" and "John cell" when placing a call via Google Assistant, for instance.
Connect your phone to the car display. The Android app will be displayed immediately. You can tap to see driving directions or text messages with voice commands. You can also call your friend without using your hands. Android auto helps you focus on driving and have fun driving. Connect your phone and start.
As I said it will jot work if android auto has access. Turn off wifi on phone so android auto does not auto connect in background. Go onto Bluetooth setting in car screen and you should get to a screen asking you to give access to phone, android auto etc. turn the switch on the android auto bit to off. Once the car is connected to phone then contacts will appear. If you dont switch off the android auto selection on main screen, as soon as you turn wifi on your phone on again it will auto connect thus stopping your contacts appearing in car screen. Sorry its a bit long winded.

As I said I not a clue about android so having to go off my experience with Iphone. However with regards to contacts I would still think that you have to give permissions in the car Bluetooth setting. Good luck.

Google is all set to launch the Google Assistant Driving Mode soon which should get Android users excited, but on the side Android Auto is preparing its own driving mode with custom shortcuts to Assistant contacts and actions, reports 9to5Google.
Also, Android Auto is going to give you the option to save a custom launcher icon for one of your favourite contacts, says 9to5Google. And when you tap on this icon you should be immediately able to start a call with the contact.
