Response: Your professor should give you instructions for using Lockdown Browser. If you do not have a computer that has Lockdown Browser, borrow a laptop from the library. We have laptops for 4 hour use, in the library, and for 24 hour use -- those can used in or outside the library.Jamovi is already installed on the computers in the library. Click on the Windows button to get a list of software. Scroll down to Jamovi and click on the program.
Response: Can you help me understand "better"? Do you mean healthier? More variety? Something else? Feel free to email me at jcorbin1 @ stetson.eduThe coffee machine is a constant struggle. We do notify Chartwell's when it is not working so they can repair or refill it. As of Feb. 8, 2024, it is working again and accepts credit card payments.
We currently have an open ticket with IT asking them to do check the Wi-Fi connectivity in the building to identify and improve Wi-Fi throughout the library building. Unfortunately, they have not responded (as of 12/6/22).
Bottom line, we are regularly working on this issue. We pride ourselves on providing a stress-free, hassle-free library environment for our students, and we know the Wi-Fi issues are not conducive to those goals.
Full Suggestion: I have really enjoyed Reese's book Club list - which some of the books are available at the duPont-Ball library. If we could add more of her books to the library inventory that would be great. Thanks.
Response: The library is notified of all films grossing more than $24 million worldwide. We purchase many of them. So, we already have Frozen 2. Portrait of a Lady on Fire is currently in theaters. I will pass this title along to our Collections Management folks so patrons may borrow it once it's available.
Response: We did not find any dog poop in the area you mentioned. I'm hoping that our fantastic housekeeper Francia cleaned it in the wee hours of the morning. Thanks for making it your duty to report the issue.
Response: Thanks for the suggestion. We're not done purchasing new furniture for the library, so we'll definitely keep this in mind. Which would you rather have? Chairs with wheels or chairs with padding?
Response:
Thank you for your suggestion. I couldn't agree more! If you've visited the Children's Literature section on the 2nd floor, you've seen photos of staff animals, including several cats. Here's a pic of my geriatric cat, Punky. I've known him since 2003.If you want more cat photos to peruse (or purruse), take a look at my favorite internet-famous cat, Lil BUB. She's the cutest!
Having wipes would help prevent the spread of germs and keep those who use the study rooms less likely to get sick. (Many students use these spaces and having wipes can cut down on the spread of diseases/sickness)
Response: After doing a little searching, I see that this manga series is by Aka Akasaka and that there are 15 volumes. I'll pass this request to our Collections Management Folks who will consider ordering the series.
Full Suggestion:
Good evening! I was recently looking for some fiction books to enjoy and I came to the realization that they were lacking and the books that were present were older in year. I was curious if there was any way to get more Rick Riordan, Cassandra Clare, John Green, Holly Black, Rainbow Rowell, Maggie Stiefvater, etc. Thank you so much for your time!
Response:
Yes. We have some, but certainly not all, of the books written by the authors in your list. For example, the most recently published Rick Riordan book in Stetson's library isThe Hammer of Thor from 2016.We don't have any Cassandra Clare books available for check out.
Full Suggestion: Can a plastic recycling bin go inside the library? There is one outside, but I don't want to have to walk outside every time. Plus, have one inside would encourage more people to recycle. Please & thank you!
We have installed water bottle filling water fountains on all floors. We have new printer release printers that have an option to force a print job to be double-sided. The university switched to LED lights about a year ago.
Response: I've passed this suggestion along to our library acquisitions people. Just to be technical, the title is The Future of Humanity: Terraforming Mars, interstellar travel, immortality, and our destiny beyond Earth, but I knew what you meant. Also, I bet this book is out if this world!
Response: We do have these types of book in our collection. Here are a few ideas on how to find them.1. Browse the New Books shelves located on the main floor of the library, near the group study rooms, on the way to the DVD section. We're always getting new books in, so, take a look. We also put our new DVDs on display on those shelves.2. Search the library catalog by title or author. Not sure who to search for? Use a bestseller list or a recommended reading list.3. If you want to browse, know that we organize the collection using the Library of Congress Classification system. Here's what you should know about browsing the fiction shelves in the library. The P call numbers are the Language and Literature books. If you're looking for books by American authors, written between 1961 and 2000, they're in PS 3550-3576. Books by American authors written since 2001, will be in PS 3600-3626. For example, Roxanne Gay's novelDifficult Women has the call number PS 3607 .A985725 A6 2017. For 20th and 21st century British authors look in the PR 6000 section. For YA literature, look in our Juvenile section, in PZ 7. That's where you'll find the Harry Potter series.
Full Suggestion: Could the library get some of the books by Lang Leav (Love and Misadventure, Memories, Lullabies, The Universe of Us, etc.) and Rupi Kaur (Milk and Honey & The Sun and Her Flowers)? They write poetry.
Response: The PAWS Therapy Dogs are on campus once a month on Tuesdays. The next visit is on Tuesday, December 5th from 10 am to 4 pm in the library. In January, the dogs will be at the Hollis Center on January 23rd. Check Stetson's Events Calendar for locations and times.
Response: This is great feedback! I just added Philosopher's Index as a database best bet (and I'm a little embarrassed that it wasn't already designated as a best bet). We'll work on adding the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy to the Philosophy Research Guide.Update: The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is now on the Encyclopedias & Dictionaries page of the Research Guide.
Response: Thank you for the suggestion. There is one Brad Meltzer children's book in our collection: Heroes for my son.I'll be sure to pass your suggestion along to our acquisitions folks.
Response: Thanks for the suggestions! I've forwarded the information to our Acquisitions folks. BTW, the spelling is Cotillard. I wasn't sure about the spelling either, so I Googled it. UPDATE: We have the DVD Allied. It's in the Feature Film collection on the first floor of the library.
Response: Thanks for the suggestion. I sent it to the folks in our Acquistions Department. I asked them to get a version in English rather than in the original German.UPDATE: Is this the same book?
Full Suggestion: Here's a radical idea! It's simple and would solve a real problem. The paper towel dispensers in the men's restroom are fastened to the wall shared by the East Room Computer Lab, typically a nice quiet space with the exception of the awful noise made every time a man pulls down and tears a paper towel. It can be disruptive if not accustomed to it. The towel dispensers could be moved and attached to a different wall, perhaps one on the right side of the vanity and one of the door. Perhaps even bolted to the partition of the handicap stall. Anywhere but the Restroom/East room wall. Anything to eliminate that random God awful noise. Thanks for consideration.
Response: I don't find your suggestion to be radical. I think it's wonderful!I know the sound of which you speak. It's jarring. It's LOUD. It's unnecessary. After reading your suggestion, I spoke with Sara our Custodian. She told me that the paper towel dispensers would be replaced in our building this summer. We talked about where the new dispenser might be placed so it's less disruptive. There aren't very many placement options, but Sara will do her best to help. Also, maybe the new dispensers will be quieter than the ones we have now. I remain hopeful. UPDATE: The new dispensers have been installed and are no longer on the wall that is shared with the East Room.
Full Suggestion: Johannes Brahms "Complete Songs for Solo Voice and piano," the library has Series I, III, and IV. Could you please buy or order Series II so we have the complete set? (M1620 .B825 1979 V.1)
Full Suggestion: Can the library get the TV show "Lea Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath."? I know the library doesn't buy many TV shows because of cost, but this show is educational on Scientology.
Response: Looks like we just have the 2016 version of the Jungle Book.I sent your suggestion to our Acquisitions folks.UPDATE: The Jungle Book has gone back into the Disney Vault, so it's not available for purchase.
Response: We plan to move the study room reservations to Ad Astra for the fall semester. In that system, you should be able to pick a start time and end time for your reservation. We're using Ad Astra for 25L Reservations. Take a look.
Response: We'll definitely consider it. The two calculators we have were left in the lost and found. Because no one picked them after many months, we decided to add them to the circulating equipment collection.
