Inertia
As I stand among the crowd,
my eyes wander aimlessly,
searching for you.
I am but a moth
into your light,
drawn to your flames.
My hands struggle
to reach you,
only to grasp air.
How long do I have to stay
in the corner of your eyes?
I long for your gaze;
Scared to pursue,
scared to lose you—
a hopeless romantic;
Inches apart in distance,
but miles away at heart—
so near, yet so far.
It has been months
since the last time I saw
that blithesome smile
And now I lament
over the fact that it belongs
to someone else.
But even after all this time,
the clock inside my heart
remains stuck in the past.
As I stood among the crowd,
my eyes wandered and found only
to see you now in someone’s arms.
The feelings that writhe within
have now become the embers
of a dying flame.
And I could only suspire
and invert this smile
as this love remains idle.
