Dear All,
on February 18th, I wrote an email to everybody in our Group, saying:
I need to remember everybody that this is not a forum for political debates.
Poetry is the subject of our Group/Forum, therefore I urge all the poets to avoid entering into political discussions.
So, please, let's stop with political discussions. Thanks.
About the "BEST & WORST of HUMAN SOCIETY" Anthology, I think I'll use a part of a long poem I wrote at the beginning of last year as an introduction. Hoping it will help to focus on the subject, here is the (long) passage:
From my poem: 'Thirteen Ways of Looking at Humans'
VIII.
(Excruciating details about the end of a poor seagull)
From her window she had viewed everything:
The two boys were idling outside
When they saw the seagull.
The poor bird looked emaciated, with a broken
Wing. It was in so much pain that it couldn't move.
The younger boy approached it and moved the bird
With a foot.
"Hold the seagull upon your head, as a
Victory crown!" —Shouted the elder boy.
"This is not what the Bible says," She told
Them, from the window: "It is written:
«He crowns the humble with victory.» By the way, you should
Try to help that poor thing, not have fun with it."
"Don't tell us what we should do!" They shouted back to her,
"Anyway, he's almost dead."
Again, the younger boy forced the poor seagull to
Move. Then the elder boy
Grabbed the bird and threw it into the air: "Come on, fly!"
Of course, the poor thing fell to the ground with a thud.
"Leave it alone! Don't you have a heart?"
"We're just getting started,
We’re not ready to let go of it now."
"Here's the truth: you have neither heart nor conscience."
"A conscience? What are you talking about... it's just a bird. And
Birds have to fly, haven’t they?" (laughing)
"Besides, animals do not feel pain. Everybody knows THAT."
"What does it say about you that you keep denying the
Reality?
Your preposterous beliefs and way of life show how
Deep your cognitive dissonance is!"
