There Flowed A River....

The river does not speak anymore,
She is quiet as the silence we abhor,
She no more bounces and gushes
Like the cheerful lass from the hills, who rushes,
Jumping and dancing in glee, neither shackled nor chained,
Making her own way through rocky terrains,
Quenching the thirst of all enroute,
Kissing and giving life to all onshore.

She has changed form,
Size, colour, lost all warmth,
Betrayed by mankind, she is sore,
She is not the same anymore,
She does not sing or prance,
Nor does she dance,
She tries to just move on,
Sad and melancholic, waiting for the day she is gone!

Betrayed by mankind, she has shrunk,
Every bit of her, they have drunk,
Tortured and usurped her,
Dirtied and overburdened her,
Used and now abandoned her,
Built stony cities around and imprisoned her,
She is badly hurt and pained,
Her life giving water, all nearly drained.

Her story is now ready to go down in history,
For future generations, she may be some mystery,
The flowing river, is a symbol of life,
Care for her, nurture her, help her stay alive!
God forbid! If she ends we will end up with a desert full of sand,
Probably we will keep her in an urn, in some museum she will land,
So we can tell the future, there flowed once a river,
A stream of elixir, a life giver..

Save the River, save Life, save the Earth!
