First things first. Sorry I didn't update last saturday. We didn't go
into town because we were hosting a conference out at the farm/base.
Also we will be working another camp this weekend so I won't be able
to email you all this weekend either (Mom I'm still alive).
Next I'm going to start sending the whole message out in the emails
because it's easier for you guys. It should still be on the website
though so no worries.
What to say? So much has happened since the last time I wrote all of
you. I had one day to relax and then we hosted a conference of
farmers from all over Namibia. Then school started back on Monday.
So much has progressed there since the last time I came. It's really
encouraging to see God at work here. For those of you that were there
last time, you know that they had just bought out the building next
door which was formerly a brewery or something. They are well on their
way to renovating it, making classrooms, a library and what will
eventually be a computer training center.
Here's what a typical day looks like for me:
Wake up about 6:30 and get ready to leave for the school by 7.
Once we get the day is busy from the start. Some children we feed
because they don't get any breakfast at home, a handful of which eat
separately from the others because we have to give them TB meds. Then
they play til classes start. When that happens we start making morning
snack or lunch or cleaning toilets. Between meals and classes we are
in the yard playing with kids. The best time of the day is 12:30-2,
when the kids are taking a nap. Unless you have nap duty. They just
don't like to sleep so we have "Mr. and Mrs. Discipline", two wooden
spoons that we use to give a quick smack on the bottom so that they
behave, because it's the only thing that makes them. I am learning
the kids names quickly and I love so much about this place. There are
no dishwashers so Namibia is now to me the land flowing with dirty
dishes, haha. Dishes at home, dishes at school, always dishes.
I'm becoming better and better friends with my co-volunteers and the
guys that work on the base and live in my house. Sadly most of the
girl volunteers are leaving at the beginning of July so it'll just be
me and David. But more teams are coming so that should be interesting.
There's so much more but it's hard to put it into an email so make
sure you guys talk to me when I get back.
Prayer requests:
God to supply money for continued construction on the next phases of
the school.
Unity within the YWAM base.
Strength and Rest for all of us.
God to continue using me for Him.
Safety travel and lives changed at the camp this weekend.
I love you all. Thanks so much for your support,
Joshua
PS- happy birthday next week Poppy!
