I recently got a new computer and it has an Intel GPU built in and an Nvidia GPU. Regular Minecraft uses the Nvidia one without issue but I can't seem to figure out how to get Tekkit or Technic to use it. I tried telling the computer to use the GPU when running the technic launcher but that didn't work.
You need to tell it to always use the GPU when dealing with either Java in general, or do so for modpack.jar and minecraft.jar in the .techniclauncher folder. The launcher is only active for a moment, after that it just launches a special version of minecraft.
I started up technic, went into task manager and looked. It says technic was using Java.exe. I right clicked on it then clicked "Open file location" It brought me to the jre7 folder to the Java.exe file. I went into the GPU settings and told it to use the high performance GPU on Java.exe. It's still not using it for tekkit/technic.
Ok so i searched up if technic launcher was safe seen a post on here and a few people said that it was safe aslong as you downloaded it from the site. Well ive had it before and somehow gave me a virus i deleted it didnt have it for 5 months. I downloaded it the 13th of november (2 days ago for me) and when i went to get off of regular and go to modded it crashed my whole computer so i deleted it from my computer, BUT that was after i downloaded Sim-U-Kraft and Thaumic Ascenscion on there.. However i downloaded it again yesterday and when i went to shut down my comp it was really slow, and after i downloaded it if i went to scroll on my screen itd glitch out and wouldnt let me as its happening today. I have no antivirus cause believe it or not those gave me virus... and it was avast and malwarebytes... So i got rid of those and havent had anything since. I searched up is technic safe to download for my kind of computer and it said that this one mod on there, tekkit, was a trojan virus and i used to have tekkit. Could anybody help after my long explanation?
so this is actually happening on my friend's pc. i went over to fix it today and spent around and hour trying to fix it. basically, his laptop is 64-bit, he is running windows 10 64-bit, regular minecraft runs in 64-bit from the minecraft launcher... but technic doesn't.
now, technic launcher would actually run vanilla minecraft in 32-bit, but if i tried 64-bit it wouldn't work. didn't work on any modpack at all. the launcher just disappeared (since it had disappear on launch on) and then reappeared almost immediately. i checked the task manager and javaw.exe didn't even show up from what i saw, and i tried it many times.
So, I've downloaded the technic launcher and from the downloads window clicked the launcher. It asks if I want to run it I click yes, it does something really quick. Then a logo thing, gray letters with a little blue, pops up and nothing happens. When I open a diff. window it stays on top, but I can't click through it. What is happening? The faq doesn't say anything about this and google is coming up empty.
I would like to create a custom modpack for personal use, without needing to upload to the technic website. Is that possible, how does that work? If it doesn't, is there another launcher that i could use? What i want to do is replace certain mods in tekkit-lite, using a copy of the modpack.
If you are just wanting to add a few mods then you can do this to tekkit lite. Go to %APPDATA%/roaming/.technic/modpacks/"name of pack here" and place the mods in the mods folder. If you do this, then be sure to make a copy of the modpacks's folder as it can be reset from time to time.
hey i understand your want for a custom modpack, there is a very simple easy way to get a custom modpack with just a few clicks (can have 200+ mods). one catch it isn't on the technic launcher, you have to use a launcher called "AT Launcher".
I have recently helped my son install Tekkit to work with Minecraft and along the way I encountered issues with both the Java version and with the launcher itself.
The symptoms of the launcher failing include the Tekkit Launcher freezing at the splash screen and after getting past this issue failing to log in to Minecraft.
Here is how I resolved the problem:
I run a small local server and wanted to check in on it after a week or so of not being on. I have tried downloading a new launcher, reinstalling Java, and the obligatory reboot. Thought I'd ask around here before I tried anything deeper.
Summary
The Technic Launcher is a tool for installing mods or modpacks onto Minecraft. Many popular modpacks are on Technic such as Attack of the B Team, Hexxit, and Feed The Beast. Most modpacks require users to allocate more ram to be used, it's typically recommended to allocate at least 8 Gigabytes (8000 Megabytes) to ensure a smooth experience. Users are also able to customize their modpacks by adding or removing mods.
How to Allocate More Ram in the Technic Launcher
1. From the Technic launcher, choose the Launcher Options button in the top right corner.
2. Click the Java Settings Tab.
3. Choose the Memory drop-down menu and select the desired amount.
4. If the Memory drop-down does not go above 1gb of ram, you need to download the offline 64-bit version of java here.
At the heart of the matter, the developers behind Tekkit and Technic did not appear to ask permission from mod authors for their work to be included within either Tekkit or Technic. Mod authors thus begrudgingly accepted the existence of Tekkit and Technic, because the launcher includes a provision for people to donate directly to them.
Technic Launcher is a program designed to be used in conjunction with the hit game Minecraft. Once downloaded and installed, the launcher essentially gives you in-game access to the Technic Platform, a collection of mods for Minecraft.

Sorry guys about lack of detail if you would like to create a launcher just ask :)

For the .jar, Wine is not required. Above launcher works in 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 w/openjdk-6 (assuming you are in that directory or include full path to the .jar). It stores things in a separate .techniclauncher directory, so it does not interfere with your regular /.minecraft.
Tekkit is a launcher program that allows you to manage multiple Minecraft mods from one convenient location so you can avoid installing mods separately to the Minecraft folder on your computer. You can install the Tekkit client, or install the Tekkit server if you want to host Minecraft sessions for multiple players.
Technic is a launcher, community and large group of modpacks created by the Technic Team. Technic was originally created as a small, personal modpack by KakerMix on a website named Something Awful. It only had a few downloads until it was reviewed by a member of The Yogscast, where it was placed into the spotlight of their many fans. The Technic Launcher was created to automatically install of the Technic modpacks, including over 10,000 third-party modpacks[1].
Although Technic was once hegemonic in the modded community, the Technic Team has not released one of their own modpacks in years, nor have they modified their launcher beyond basic maintenance. As such, Technic is no longer a large part of the modded community. However, the Technic modpacks and launcher still have a cult following within its own community, and Technic still has a large legacy, paving the way for future modpacks and modpack distribution platforms.
You may fail to log into Tekkit due to a corrupt cache or corrupt installation of the Technic launcher. Moreover, an outdated Minecraft installation may also cause the current login error. The affected user encounters the error when he tries to join a multiplayer game or when he tries to log in to a server. The issue is reported to happen on Windows, Mac, and Linux. In some cases, the user faced the issue after he upgraded his Tekkit server. The error affected the majority of the users having migrated accounts.
The current login issue could be a result of a temporary glitch between the communication/application modules or if your login has been invalidated (or expired) by another launcher instance. The glitch can be cleared by re-logging the launcher.
You may fail to log in to the launcher if the entries related to your account details in the server database are corrupt. In this context, resetting your Minecraft password may clear the login error as all the modules will be forcefully reinitialized.
