Hi friends:
After doing a lot of research ON THE NET- Finally, when I asked a
question on Yahoo Answers about this SPECIAL oven that is shown in the
TV sitcom Bewitched ( old one) some one sent me the URL http://obviousdiversion.com
and from there I was directed to the Google groups!- can U believe
how thrilled I am? I live in BC Canada and I would love to own such an
oven, its the up-swinging doors that interested me (when I watched the
programme), after getting burnt so many times with the new fancy ovens
Any ideas how I can get one in a good working order?
Thanks to all

Hello there,
Unfortunately, the days of going to the Frigidaire appliance store has
long since disappeared. I believe a lot of us have turned to Ebay to
locate the elusive stove. I searched Ebay for 2 years before one was
available close to me. But that's a very good place to
start....there's almost always one or two on Ebay. Be prepared
though, this is one of the heaviest appliances you will ever come
across!

Check Craigslist.
The actual Flair from Bewitched was on Ebay a several years ago and I believe it went to the dump. there were no takers. The shipping cost was a killer. Usually the Flairs are reasonable in cost or free. That means they may need work.

Actually, my understanding is that the fire that desptoyed the Bewitched set claimed the entire kitchen, hence the re-designed kitchen with the cook top and seperate oven and the spiral stairs in the back.  Anyone confirm this?

The fire would have been after parts of the ste were sold.

Hi there:
Thanks fro the  email- Yeah I guess only EBay but I feel its too much of a bother to get it from there as one never knows what the  real condition would be ! How I wish I could find one that had doors that would swing upwards- Wonder why no one makes these kind of doors for the modern ovens , so practical- These manufacturers should have women in their designing plants! Thanks again-
 Best Regards

Here is some info I found on a Bewitched web site – I get the feeling the set, including the Flair, was destroyed.  On this site I noticed the last Flair was a RCI645K from 1966

Designing a Room Inspired by Bewitched

The kitchen went through a makeover after a fire destroyed the Screen Gems sets before the seventh season. There are two distinct looks for a Bewitched kitchen. In this scene, note the Fridgidaire Flair stove, pans, spice rack, and clear glass coffee pot.

The door in Figure 7 was used from episode #79 through the end of the series (except for #s 87 and 88). The door was repainted on one side due to fire damage between the sixth and seventh seasons.

Between the sixth and seventh seasons there was a fire in the kitchen area of the studio set and this was used as a opportunity or make two major changes to the kitchen set, as well as some minor cosmetic changes.

The first of the major changes was the addition of an eating area at the back of the kitchen. This extra space is the result of an addition to the house and gave access to the back patio through double doors from the kitchen. It was necessary to move the oven location to provide a walk through from the old kitchen to the new eating area. There are many scenes over the years of Samantha using the kitchen. The first six seasons feature activity around the oven, with little use of the range. After the kitchen alterations the activity changes to the range with little use made of the oven.

OK, maybe that explains why it was so clean. With that a side, lets see if we can find Mapleleaf59 a Flair. Everyone knows that to find one perfect is almost impossible.
The answer for why isn't there anything like the Flairs out there now.
Styles change, with the introduction of the self cleaning ovens the design  didn't seem to fit the designers, UL approval of the AC outlet and it seems to be a number of other issues.

I believe the self cleaning wasn't important with the ease of cleaning, the gull wing doors are still very fitting. The new unit could be updated to newer times or it could be a retro reproduction unit. If some one would take it on.
Frigidaire is now owned by AB Electrolux of Sweden.

Dear Maple Leaf-

Welcome to the USA, albeit via the internet. I am a Canada fan
although I have only been to your lovely country two times both via
Windsor from Detroit. Neither were the prettiest areas back in
1981-82 when I was there. The Avro Arrow and Stan Rogers are two of
my favorite Canadian creations.

I agree about your comment on designers not considering for whom they
are designing. When I see some of the sink and faucets that are out
now I cringe thinking about how hard it would be to clean around the
faucets or the raised glass bowl, etc. All designers should be
required to use the item many times and to clean it.

I don't know if it was a thread on this group or at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/classicappliances/ but there was/is a
company in Canada that made a stove similar to a Flair. I think
Moffat? You could look/ask at that group as well as here. I don't
remember if the doors swung up or not.

There are Flair people there and you can check regularly to see if
anyone has a Flair for sale. They have been for sale or free on this
group site as well. The cost comes from shipping. As already stated
they are heavy, look around to find a shipping site that handles cross
border shipping. Get the weight of a Flair to plug in the weight and
distance for quotes. If you can find a trucker who needs to fill out
a load you might get a deal. Try, http://www.uship.com/

Post a Wanted ad on the nearest CraigsList and in the paper. As a car
enthusiast I know that keeping an ad in the paper works and if you
take out a small ad over a long period it can be cheap. Don't get
specific as readers may not know they have Flair when they see your
ad. "I buy '60s Frigidaire stoves" then get down to details when they
call.

Good luck,
Richard

Maple Leaf -

Another thought, right here on this group is a double oven, no cook
top which would be easier and cheaper to ship.

And I love/loved Royal Canadian Air Farce, As It Happens, (Barbara
Budd!), Kids In The Hall and of course Second City on the CBC. I wish
we had Question Period here.

...just a little note - Windsor and Detroit are better than they used to be
back in 1981-2. :)
