I have a Flair RCIB 645-2 in my home which was built in '73.  I assumed the Flair was a '73 model but I am looking into an issue with my speed heat burner and I see some of the parts are stamped with 1961.  I'm trying to find out if the lady who had the home built in '73 had the Flair in a prior home.

Anyway, I'm wondering how hard it will be to find a replacement burner/element for this unit.  I'm also looking for knobs for the oven controls.

Thanks,
Eric Wilson

You have a 1963 Frigidaire Flair. Attached find a picture of a Flair that matches your model number.

As to speed heat. It is one of the common issues of the Flair, over time the switch will go out. The speed heat switch is no
longer being manufactured. Most likely you can find a good used one from members parting out old Flairs on this site or at times
on Craigs List and ebay.

There has been some talk recently that the speed heat switch may be put back into production, I would contact an appliance parts store to see if these switches are available, or new old stock.

The alternative is to change it to Infinite heat as the other burners on your stove are. Those switches can be found new or used.
If you do change from speed heat to infinite heat, I would reccommend to change the switch and the burner both, the wiring is
slightly different. Personally, I like to keep it working as original as possible and I would reccommend to search out a used
working speed heat switch and replace it.

If you intend to replace the switch yourself, ask for advice from this Frigidaire Flair group for suggestions. There are some tricks
you will need to know, otherwise, you might loose the front glass while taking the top of the flair off.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards

That is a mirror image of my Flair.  We painted our storage doors black.  We are actually thinking about replacing ours with a new Kenmore or similar 40" range.  I'm wondering if mine has any value out there.  I know it is expensive to ship these units and I live in the far western corner of Kentucky so I'm not sure if I have a market.

Thanks,
Eric Wilson

These are classic stoves, and there hasn't really been anything like it since. The value of your stove depends on the condition, location, and who is looking for it. Shipping around the United States can go from 250.00 to 950.00 depending on the company and distance.  We all want a deal, but sometimes harder to find.

This year I had ten of these flairs, now I am down to only five right now. I never paid over 200.00 for them.  Some people ask 500.00 and I personally think that a little high for an unrestored forty year old stove. The average price I might put at 350.00 for a cream puff, but then again, you have to find a buyer and shipper, then the reality sinks in. Some people just hang on to them until they find the right buyer and others, at times, come down in price, just to have it out of their garage. They weigh 350 pounds and so that is something else to take into consideration, however, remember, these units were built by General Motors, they were built like cars and they have lasted a long time, and are still doing a great job of cooking.

If this stove scares you, then maybe a new one will be your answer. If you want a classic and turn it into a hobbie, and not afraid to tackle it, then keep it, and all of us here on the web can walk you through it.

There are many incredible and knowledgeable people who write continually on this website everyday. I have found all the information the continues to poor in, extremely helpful, and very much appreciated.

Good luck to you and keep us all posted of your progress. Again, hope this information helps.

Best Regards

The kenmores are built by "probably" frigidaire and they just might be a money pit. They are built sooooooooo lite !  Lots of Cheap parts in them !!!!  I know them well, Dave.

Greetings Eric (or anyone else looking for parts for a 645-2): If
you're still looking for parts I have a complete RCIB 645-2 that I was
planning on parting out. It was allegedly working up until 18 months
ago - at which time it was removed to do a major kitchen reno.

I believe we have decided to replace the Flair with a new range.  I would be willing to arrange a sale for bottom dollar if someone is interested.

Thanks,
Eric Wilson

We are located in Fancy Farm, KY (yes, that is a real town).  The zip code is 42039 if you want to look it up on a map.

Thanks,
Eric Wilson
