Hello!! I own a "post Flair" Frigidaire Custom Imperial range, model
RXE-39P. I believe it to be from around 1967 to 1968. This unit has
eye-level controls, Speed Heat, and Heat Minder features much like the
Flair, but the oven is below the cooktop like a standard range. It
also has dual infra-red heat lamps below the hood, which shine down
onto the cooktop for keeping foods warm.

Like many, my 6" Speed Heat was converted to a standard 220V unit long
ago, before I owned it. I've looked long and hard for an original
speed heat switch to restore the SH feature and, last week, FINALLY
found a NOS switch, P/N 633277. I also ordered a new 110V burner
unit, so I'm getting close! What I'm worried about is what wiring
modification(s) were done by the service tech way back when that I'll
need to reverse in order to restore the SH. I have reviewed the
schematic on the 1960 Flair Tech-Talk posted here - I'm just not sure
that the exact same arrangement was retained on the newer RXE-39P.
Does anybody happen to have access to any literature for my unit? (ie
owners manual, brochures, or service lit)? Thanks in advance for your
help!!

I would think it would wire up like a Flair. If it's the same type unit. Pretty lucky to find that control!!

from what i understand, the speed heat switch has 6 wires
and the infinate heat has only 5 wires.
sooooo
umm...
can you snap a picture of your current wiring, i'll snap
a picture of my current speed heat wiring and
we can compare and see how similar the hood up is :)
hope this helps!

Hi Carol! Will do...I probably won't get around taking it apart until
next week (the switch is coming in the mail and I have to use the
range between now and then), but I'll take some photos and maybe
together we can figure it out...thanks!!

On a related note, it sounds like Carol's speed heat is actually still
working as originally configured?!? How many others have their speed
heat still configured to "flash heat"? Sounds like it's really neat
when it works, but every older Frigidaire tech I've talked with
doesn't speak very fondly of it - sounds like it was quite
problematic, perhaps. Apparently, if the switch goes bad, it'll leave
220 on the coil until it burns up or shorts out, and, conversely, if
the surface unit shorts, it'll take out the switch with it. I assume
that made for a costly repair bill, which is undoubtedly why so many
were retrofitted with a plain old infinite setup. If and when I get
mine working, I plan on using it sparingly, as I'll likely NEVER find
another switch. It took me four years of diligent hunting to find the
one I've got coming in the mail. I'd be curious to hear what others
have experienced...

I have one in my kitchen, and it works great! I really don't think the surface element could take out the control. I would guess if the element went south, it would just cease operating.

The speed heat burner on my RCI645J works great, too!  Original configuration.

Loren,  I've been meaning to post a big thank you.  When I now set my small oven to 300º,  I get.....Woo Hoo!....300º!!!

Thank you so much!

I'm greedy...any tricks to correct the temp on my big oven?  :-)))

Hey, Thanks, I'm glad it worked for you. It's nice to have it work as advertised, isn't it?

it takes a bit of time for them to go out.
I had my model 'K' flair working for
over 30 years, and the speed heat did not
go out till 2007. I did not try to fix it as it
was the last thing that went out before
i was blessed with my 'new' replacement.
I love the speed heat feature, and do use it quite a lot.
However, i wonder if when other folks replaced their
broken speed heat with the infinate heat it was
just because the speed heat switch was no longer
available??
just a thought
Carol :)

My RCIB-645-2 has the original burners and the Speed Heat and Heat Minder
burners are the most frequently used, as they are the front two and most
readily available when cooking.
I imagine my unit is in such good shape as I'm almost certain it was in a
vacation cabin and rarely used except a few times in the summer when the
original owners were on vacation - although you'd never know it considering
it was quite dirty when I got it.
