I have a 1962 Flair Custom Imperial stove, Model RCIH-635.  My oven will heat up slightly, but won't get to the correct temperature.  I was told I need a thermostat, part number 7526435.  Does anyone have this part or know where I can get it?  I've been searching for awhile and would really like to use my oven again.  Thanks for your help!  Monye

There is an adjustment screw in the center of the thermostat shaft when you remove the knob.

It may be working but just out of adjustment.

I was told by a service tech that the oven controls go through the clock. Even if the clock is working the points inside the clock go bad so the oven is not getting the full 220 electricity. He said it is a common issue with the older ovens but hard to find the clocks to replace

I thought it was the thermostat also. It apparently wasn't

I went through the exact same issue.  I put a new thermostat in...used....and bought a new bottom element.  Still no luck.  I finally had a friend who was an electrician stop by and he found the same problem.  220 was getting all the way up to the clock and then it went to 110.  There is a way to bypass the clock so that you don't have to deal with that.  For me it was the two red wires but I don't know the wiring on your oven and am pretty sure the wires are going to be different colors.  But...if you can get someone there to do the bypass, it should start working again.  It did for me.

Hope that this helps!

My husband tried to bypass the clock. Hoping he did it right. He didn't do it right. Im pretty sure he fried some important wires. I was so sad. If anyone wants to bypass the clock make sure you get an electrician .

This is the second time in a month that the Flair group has switched from daily message digests to echoing every message individually.

I can understand why many subscribers find this annoying.

Is Google doing this (negligently) or is the group manager changing options?

The Clock can be bypassed

What is the exact model that you have??

The contacts in the clock should only experience wear when the clock is used frequently to turn the oven on or off. This is, I expect, quite unusual.

Therefore, if one set of clock contacts fails, causing only 115v to the oven, it is most likely that the failed contacts have simply become oxidized or the spring pressure closing them has weakened. Both conditions are easily repaired.

Disassembling the clock should reveal the contacts (and their connections). Using a small file to clean the contact surfaces should restore proper function with no need to replace anything.

If the contacts close with insufficient pressure, adjustment of the spring will correct this.

If there is a problem with the connections to the contacts, not the contacts themselves, that should also be apparent and can be repaired without much trouble.

If the contacts are irreparably damaged, their corresponding connections can be permanently wired together, bypassing the clock. Looking inside the clock should make it evident which connections must be made to achieve this.

Michael, you sound like you know what you're doing with these ranges.  My flair has a problem with the burners and my local appliance store came to fix them and said they can't find any parts but they certainly found their invoice book.  is there a way to repair the burners or update the parts?  Haas anyone ever considered converting the cook top to gas or propane burners?

Randy,

Other members of this group can tell you where you can find replacement burners. They are very simple to replace when you have the correct part.

While nothing is impossible, conversion of a Flair to gas would be a real "craft" project, involving a lot of custom engineering. I wouldn't consider it practical, though for a few it might be doable as a labor of love. ;-)

The 1962 and newer timers by International Register are more durable than the GE timers on the 1960-61 models but their oven switches have relatively small contacts that can wear and give some problems over the years. They can be disassembled fairly easily for cleaning but if the contacts are too pitted, they can be bypassed on the pre-1965 models quite easily (that's usually what repair techs do, they don't bother touching the clock switch since most people don't use this feature anyway).

There should be two black and two red wires going to the timed switch at the back of the timer. To bypass the switch, you need to screw the red wires on the same terminal and the black ones to the same terminal. Once you have done that, the power outlet won't be timed either.

If you get 118 volts from the timer to the oven, maybe a neutral wire (for the clock motor) was reversed with a hot (red or black) wire?

There are alot of repair people that don't bother to check the burnrers, there is a specific resistance for the burners, they ndo go bad most time s the controls go bad..
The parts can be found used or old new parts. Some members do have parts, what model do you have.
when the clock contacts go bad there is a fix with using a relay .

You probably won't fine a new one but yours can be refurbished from a shop in Texas. I am sorry I cannot give you the name as my info is in nm. Works great, was expensive but I love my flair. Google oven thermostat rebuild in Texas .
Good luck:-)

I also would love the name of the repair shop in Texas.  The clock quit on mine and the spare we have has the same stripped part.  Thanks for sharing the info that such a place exists.  Pat

The larger oven on my RCIB 645-2 gets very hot regardless of what setting I turn it to. I take it it's time for a new thermostat unless there is anything I might check before buying a new one.  If so, can anyone let me know what a fair price range would be for one and point me in the direction of a new one?

Thanks,
Tony

You might want to check the connection of the thermostat "bulb" to the thermostat before giving up on the thermostat.

To All Flair Owners

Try "THE OLD APPLIANCE CLUB"="TOAC"

They will have everything you need from used, new and rebuilt parts. Give them a call and they should be able to help you out. A great rescource, but just like everywhere else, you need to find someone there that is familiar with the Flair, just keep asking questions and you will get the help you need. I would say that the thermostats are probably the most expensive part to buy, sometimes cheaper to rebuild the one you have.

Hope this helps in someway to locate parts and information about the Flair Ranges.  Good luck!

Best wishes for a Happy New Year 2014

Tom Nichols
