Hello!
I'm selling my brown (Aztec Copper) Flair because I just got another,
white, with the exhaust fan! The listing on ebay will begin tomorrow
and the item number is 110460816988. I live in Cecil County,
Maryland, about 45 minutes from both Baltimore and Philadelphia and 30
minutes from the Delaware state line. I put in a plug for this group
on the listing description because you offer so much good information!
Best regards,
Dannymaill

Hi group, I just became the proud new owner of this beauty. Picked it up in Maryland for approx 200. It is a RCDB-630-2 . Everything is working with the exception of the clock which "sticks" and the broiler element. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks and I hope you can add this beauty to your pic file!

Shirley,
Thanks so much for sharing the picture of your "new" stove, and WELCOME
to this group. There are so many people on here that know these stoves, forward and
backward-and they have parts and they have the knowledge to "keep you going"--
There is Tom, Mark, Carol (the caretaker) and several others--I think they all
are "fantastic".

In your search for this stove, you didn't run across a RCIB-635 anywhere??
Please let me know if you did and if so, where?

Again, Welcome-and congrats on your stove-- You have "...entered the Flair]Zone"
Martha Mae

Shirley,

You have a great stove! The R is for Range, the C is for custom, D is for Deluxe, B is for 1962,  630 is the single oven and the dash 2 puts it at really a 1963. The custom deluxe does not have the meat tender feature, and the ovens are enamel and are not chromed inside, which is good, less things to go wrong. Every time one of us tinkers with the clock, we end up smashing the glass front, and spend years trying to coax people to give up their glass panels for the others that broke.

Your range still has the cookmaster feature, which is tied to the clock. Standing in front of the range, look at the clock and then the dials just below it, and make sure the farthest dial under the clock is turned to "MAN",  for manual and not turned to the OFF position. By keeping it in the man position the oven should work properly, but in the off position, the oven will not work properly. Give that an inspection and a try first and then let us know if it works or not, then we can go to plan B. If you don't have an owners manual, you can download one from this site. Carol has put up many catalogues, tech talk and manuals for us to use, which have been more than life saving.  We are all here to help the best we can, so keep us posted and good luck.

Best Regards

The left front element is speed heat, heats up quickly as it says, they no longer make a new switch for this, but they do make a regular switch that will work. The right front front element is called a heat minder, it has a sensor in the middle, and will not work unless the pan sits on it completely flat, new ones of these are extremely hard to find, both rear elements and switches are still made.  The electrolux company took over the Frigidaire Flair line, but has done very little to help those who still have kept their flairs working.

Typically we look for kitchen stove appliance people that know these stoves, this web site, some old timers, ebay, and in some areas like me in Los Angeles, there are two antique stove restoring companies and an actual antique stove museum. There is a gentleman in Ventura California that I just learned who rebuilds the oven switches and thermostats. Now that is one thing, that if your oven really goes out, and will not work, I suspect it would be the thermostat, in which, it would have to removed and sent out to be rebuilt or try and find someone on this site, who might have a used and working switch and thermostat, this is one thing that can go out and they do not manufacture them anymore, and you can't find them. If you talk to any Flair aficianodo, you will find the most critical part to locate is a new oven switch and thermostat. Again, we are all here to help, so whatever we can do, we will try our best.

I know that Martha Mae is looking for a new glass panel for the front of her range, and she is first on my list, if I find one. I got her a new knob for her lamp on her range, and you'd think she won the lotto. It shows how we are all so crazy about our Flair ranges. Martha, Karen, Mark, Carol, and many others are stalwarts on this site that keep us all grounded. I already have a list from this site of over 50 people that are in contact with Flair Ranges, just in the last couple of months, and I would say, that is a big group.

I may ramble on a bit, but I think it's good for all of us to remember to stick together and help each other, because we know it will get harder down the road when it comes to parts.

I have made some great friends on this site, and appreciate their time and dedication to the site and to all the people who own a Frigidaire Flair. Thankgs giving is a good time, to be greatfull to own a working flair. For me, all my living memories of thanksgiving, is the smell of a turkey cooking in our Flair, and the tradition still continues. The flair, is cleaned up, and set and ready to put the turkey in be able to watch, it cook and to enjoy a great thanksgiving and a life time of memories.

All of us have been hit some way or another with this current economic trouble, that we live in these days, please do not forget our freedom that we enjoy and be greatful for what we have today, even with all the troubles in the world, be greatful for this great nation, and take the time to be greatful and appreciate one another and try and take that one extra step and help someone in need each and every day, and if we do, the world is just that much better, if you don't believe me, try it, and why do you think I spend so much time on this site for others, because some how some way, I may have helped someone, who needed help.

I am not an appliance guy, I am a car guy, who lost his job this year and is doing everything under the sun to keep life afloat, helping others helps me get through the rough times. My knowledge comes from experience of working on these stoves as a hobby and from all the knowledgeable people on this site.

Happy Thanks giving to all of you! Everyone's comments are important, even if you don't think you have anything to contribute, and the questions seem so dumb. You have to remember there are several generations keeping these ranges alive, and they all need help, even if the question is repetitive, someone may have missed the answer the last time. So please step forward, and put in your own help and contributions for all of us, it really is appreciated, all of you.

Best Regards

Not everytime that the clocks are messed with the front panels break.
A lot of CAUTION when dealing with the panels. it is a good idea to have an extra set of hands and don't force anything.

A lot of the questions can be answered by posts on the web site.
The Speed heat controls are not made now and are extremely rare to find.
The heat minder is very particular and the pots or pans must be in contact with them and clean. Most pots and pans bow up in the middle and are not in contact with the sensor.
The sensor is pneumatic  and the tube either gets kinked or the sensor doesn't contact the pot or pan. Most cases the control themselves are actually good.
The clock can be fixed relatively easily, check the website for directions. be careful with the glass. An extra set of hands is good.
The web site has a company listed that can repair thermostats.

Electrolux  has done a relatively good job of following through with parts. The parts that are offered currently are interchangeable with other ranges.
There is a possibility of other parts being available.

When you see the story of what happened to the Frigidaire line, you would be surprised that anything is available.
Electrolux has there eyes open and is watching what we are doing and learning from that.

Hi and thanks for the input.

I don't have the heat minder on my stove.  It has four infinite heat switches.  I know what you are talking about though because I was going to get an imperial and it had the sensor thing in the middle of the element.  Thanks for the input though.

I will look on the site and find out about the clock.  I did take it apart because I had to change the starter for the fluorescent light.  It was a snap.  Plus I couldn't find the fluorescent light anywhere here in lower slower so I ordered four of them online for about 6 bucks a piece...i know i probably won't need them but I have them anyway...lol

I did, however, have to hire an electrician to come out and install a 50 amp service line in my kitchen because the flair had a 50 amp plug on it.  Is this typical???  If not, perhaps it was because of the fan that sits on top of it that I didn't get (long story)....

I baked tons of pumpkin bread and several cakes already in it.  It is absolutely the best oven I have ever baked in.

My oven temp is off just a wee bit, if I put it on the zero of 350 it gives me the actual 350 degrees (I have a thermostat in the oven) and keeps constant temp.

The broiler will not come on at all.  I need a new one, I believe.  I saw one posted on ebay but don't know if that is actually the problem or not.

I am just delighted to have this range/ oven.  It is wonderful and just down right cute!  I have a gas wall oven unit that I was going to get rid of but I am keeping it as it is a Crown Stove Works.  It came with this atomic age rancher....of which I am growing quite fond of.  It has made me a Mid Century Modernist...if only I would have realized it 7 years ago I could have kept the original formica countertops in my kitchen....lol  oh well!

Again, thanks for all of your comments and help!

Shirley
